Wide variety of usable hair, fur and feathers with enough material to be
used for tying bass bugs, dry flies, nymphs and streamers. Plenty of color
choices to tie dozens of flies. Great assortment for the beginning or the
experienced fly-tier.

Crazy Colors!,February 3, 2009
By w0011ybuggerfrom VT
"Good material, but it came in all sorts of crazy colors that I couldn't really use. I did end up with a nice bunch of peacock herl, but I'm not sure what I'll use the bright blue deer hair for. I guess that's the risk that comes with buying a "grab bag"."

grab bag,December 30, 2008
By tony52from Tobaccoville, North Carolina
"This grab bag had a lot of stuff but I got red/blue/yellow deer hair and red/blue/yellow elk hair and red/blue/yellow squirl tail. Some natural colors would have been nice... also no usable hackle for trout flies. It will get my son started with his own tying, though."

Worthless for Trout Flies,December 26, 2008
By LeesTroutfrom Massachusetts
"I bought two other grab bags (deer/elk hair and bucktail) and was pleased with both. However, the feather grab bag was a bunch of junk for anyone tying trout flies. The hackles were far too colorful and big for most normal trout patterns. The packaging states that it's for steelhead, salmon, bass and pan fish. I wish Cabelas had noted this on the website in which I case I would never have bought it."

By rogers16from gig harbor, washington
"this GRAB BAG is a good thing to get but i warn you that i bought mine in the store and if you are buying it over the internet then you don't know what you'll get but you wont get garbage. by the pic it looks like that's what it is but really theirs different ones so you could get buck tails or the scraps from their fly tier stat up kits because that is what goes into them, scraps from the cutting table that they sweep up but it does get you good stuff ans refills your table. plus, its a good surprise"

Grab Bag a little short,March 10, 2008
By Sharpshooter2from CA
"I would recommend this to a beginner with a small inventory of tying material. For me it added some but not as much as I would have wanted based on other reviews. I expected multiple Maribou colors to tie Wooley Worms and if I remember correctly there was only purple. Beads also would have been nice.
So, if your tying inventory choice is scarce order this. You will get small amounts of multiple colored furs and other misc goodies.
It would be nice if they listed what they included in this "grab bag" for the more experienced tiers."

"This kit came with more then I expected. There is not a single thing that you can not use. It is perfect no matter if your tying trout, panfish, or saltwater flies. There is something in the kit for everyone. Some of the things my kite included were squirrel tail, hackle, deer hair, bucktail, kiptail(calftail), goose biots, peacock herl, ostrich herl, and what looked to be some dyed turkey feathers."

Fly Tier's Variety Package,July 24, 2007
By vonredberryfrom Tallahassee, FL
"I recently turned my attention to fly tying again after a five year layoff and wanted some materials that were useable for both salt and fresh water patterns. But, it was extremely important that the purchases be inexpensive as I was on a very tight budget. I began looking through the Cabela's Bargain Cave under Fly Fishing Accessories and discovered the "Fly-Tier's Grab Bag" priced at under #10.00! Upon reciept of this "Tier's Variety Pack", I immediately noted it was filled with a tremendous amount of various kinds of feathers! It was amazing to me how many different types of saddle hackle necks and maribou feathers existed within this package. There were a great variety of colors among the different feathers, as well. Without a doubt, I will be using this wonderful assortment of feathers for many months now as I proceed to tie up great gobs of salt water and fresh water patterns for my numerous uses and other fly fishing friends. Thank you, Cabela's, for such a great product at such a reasonable price!"

good enough,April 14, 2007
By zajenfrom Centerfield, Ut
"I am a new fly tying inthusiast and am looking for any thing i can get to tie flies. I think this pack is full of good material, but being a new tier, i don't know most of the materials. I don't really even know what to use. I am sure i will figure it out but i like to use my brain as little as possible. I still would not have a problem buying this pack again though."
