"This box is a great idea, however, better find a battery that
fits first, other wise it is a bother to mess with.

poor at best, May 27, 2009
By pbr3

"Very poor product!! I bought mine from overton's but still the same price and product. The plastic pieces that hold it down broke right away. The large deep cycle marine batts. do not fit. It's a great idea, like stated above, but just a piece of junk."

It's the thought that counts, March 14, 2009
By LoonyToon from Reno NV

"This is a good idea overall, but cheaply made. I bought this for my fish cat, instead of the plain old black box. The plastic buckle for the strap broke as soon as I lifted the box by the handle (isn't that what it's there for?)
I have my doubts about the accuracy of the meter, since no actual load test is performed.
After 1 use, I tried to disconnect my motor and found the posts loosening instead of the "wing nuts". The posts should be slotted to prevent turning.
The 12 Volt plug may become handy when I add a fish finder.
If I did it again, I would stick to the old black box and lift it by the bottom.

Good battery box for fisherman, January 20, 2009
By Basspro33 from Seattle, WA

"This is a very good product. It keeps my battery safe and clean down all the dirt roads. When fishing I can run my trolling motor and my gps off it since it has a 12 volt outlet. I no longer have to worry about changing batteries out of my gps and worry about my expensive deep cycle battery getting cracked. It stays closed and secure and holds the big batteries so you can fish all day."

Battery box is flimsy, January 17, 2009
By coditribeplm from New Mexico

"The power station is a nice idea, but is just not executed well. I've used two of these for my pontoon boat. The strap breaks, the plastic on the battery monitor cracks and leaks, the box is not tall enough for AGM batteries, it can't be carried by the handle with a battery in it, etc. Too bad."

Think twice, November 21, 2008
By Anonymous from Lebanon, OR

"I bought this unit and found that the statement on the box that it fits "most batteries" is true. Many of the group 24 and 27 batteries will not fit in this box. Not to mention that the strength of the box is not adequate to hold a heavy battery."

Check the fit, July 22, 2008
By WatchtheSize

"The cabelas AGM battery was too tall for a good fit in the box, otherwise a great product. I ended up getting a bigger battery box from MinnKota at a local store which fit fine."

Good little unit, June 26, 2008
By FuzzyBoat from Ocean, NJ

"I haven't had any problems with the Power Station. With a good heavy battery, you'll need to carry it by the side handles; the top handle would fail with the weight. The battery indicator is useful and accurate. I'd like to see it made with a built it with heavier plastic."

Battery Box, June 2, 2008
By ATVfarmer from Idaho Falls, ID

"This is a very fancy battery box but very nice and well built. I like the accessory plug for use with my cell phone charger, handheld spot light, and depth finder. It includes a pushbutton battery checker and circuit breaker. The case is a tough ABS plastic but the buckle that came with it for the hold-down strap was broken so I had to called the manufacturer for a replacement - no problem though - one on the way."

Disappointing, May 2, 2008
By JoeAmerican

"Poorly constructed for the money. Good idea but plastic box way too light and flimsy, nylon strap bears weight of whole contraption then buckle immediately fails upon first tighening before I ever use it.
I will probably make it work by investing in a better strap with quality buckle, rather than asking for a refund.

Power Station Battery box, November 11, 2007
By OldGrayFox from Central California-Rivers & lakes & ocean fishing

"Using this with a group 22 size AMG battery (awesome products). I drilled several 1/4" holes in the bottom to drain any water that gets in, but it doesn't appear to be an issue. Packed the excess space around battery with cooler pad foam to prevent sliding around. The handle or rather latch is flimsy- I added a cam-strap and carry it with that. A stronger latch would be nice.
It's working great on my 11' cataraft. I like the built-in circuit breaker & power meter. Accessory port will be handy when I get a fish-finder. Exposed terminals are coated to prevent arcing, loosen or remove wing-nuts to connect or recharge & it's done. You'd have $100 invested if bought seperately. Good product in the proper application.

Great power box, cheap box strap., October 16, 2007
By BCAZ from Arizona

"The Power Station Battery Box is a very convenient way to manage my trolling motor battery. The box is well built, and the external hookups are well placed. Unfortunately, the provided tie-down strap has a cheap plastic buckle that broke while I was securing the battery the first time out. It would be worth a few extra dollars to include a strap with a metal buckle. I had to go out and find one. I would definitely recommend to a friend, but would warn about the strap buckle."

Does not hold up, poor construction, September 30, 2007
By Blairsville from Blairsville, GA

"I have had this box for two years in a small jon boat tied to my dock. I bought it to run the bilge pump since I keep it in the water. The handle failed immediately, but I was able to remove the screws and put it back on. (It will not handle the battery weight so you cannot carry the case by the handle with the battery installed.) The screws have since rusted and are unable to be removed. The battery meter on top has failed because the thin plastic cover cracked and let in rain. The aux power connector is corroded and does not work. I have never needed the circuit breaker, but it seems corroded in the closed position.
In short, it works as a cover for the battery allowing you to run connections to the outside of the box. All the other features have failed. I will buy a much simplier device when this finally fails completely.

Good idea - not so good execution, May 31, 2007
By Springs from Colorado Springs, CO

"Absolutely agree with most of the other comments - great idea until you actually put a battery in the case. Construction is just too light to carry around a battery with any feeling of conficence that it will stay together."

Good features but flimsy construction, May 26, 2007
By leverman

"I got this to use on a small boat with an electric trolling motor. What I like, a lot, is the battery meter, the 12V power plug, and the external charging/hookup posts. What I'm a little disappointed in is, the basic material making up the bottom half and the lid is no more sturdy than a regular cheapie battery box. With that big sturdy handle you would think you could carry this with, I was expecting a sturdy box. That's not the case. There's no way to carry this as a unit, it's so sloppy it squirts all over, even with a big 27 series that fills up the box. Bottom line I decided to keep this, and use it in a permanent installation in my other, larger fishing boat. But if it came with a big beefy box I'd be tickled pink and buy two of them."

Could be better!!, May 7, 2007
By jmdm2200 from Cranbrook, B.C. CANADA

"I like the overall idea of the box with the extra power outlet but even though I've only had it for a short time I can see the handle on the top is useless because the strap that holds the lid on cannot handle the weight of the battery alone. It could use a little better design when it comes to the lid."

Power Station, January 6, 2007
By Steveismorethan4letters from Maine, USA.

"I am sharing my experience on this product for the simple reason that I really do like the concept of this power station.
When it's new it does exactly what it says it does, but it simple does not hold up to the real world of wet marine usage and it has a number of problems that I will describe to you and you can decide if it’s worth putting in your boat.

If you can keep this box under cover and protected from the elements then it may last longer for you, but in actuality if your battery was completely under cover you probably wouldn't be looking at a box like this one in the first place.

Soon after the warranty expired.... the battery level indicator stopped lighting up – corrosion I suspect. After that, the plastic housing around the ckt. breaker broke and the little button stopped functioning. Corrosion eats this box top down.
The external 12volt power tap takes on water, and so it too fails even with frequent cleaning. Reaching in to the very bottom of this “plug” and cleaning all the corrosion out isn’t an easy thing to do.
The external cable connections are not that difficult to keep clean, the internal connections stay clean, and tight, so the power to your system generally stays well connected. The ckt. breaker does nothing once it freezes up, but at least it dozen’t open the circuit.
The generous cooling vents at the top of the box allow too much water to enter. The box quickly fills with water which, depending on your conditions, requires removing a heavy battery to empty, regularly.
So overall why even recommend getting this thing? Well, it does do what it says it does, albeit for about one season!

The one redeeming feature it does have is the external power connections. With these, you no longer need to tuck your wires and cables under the top, and down into a regular battery box. It does provide a good clean, accessible connection for your wires and the internal connections stay clean and tight. It is a cool concept and overall quite useful while it works.
Regular maintenance of course, should go without being said.

So go into this purchase considering that it really only offers one thing over the standard plastic box - external connections for your battery, and you won’t be disappointed! Or, keep the entire thing out of the elements and see how that works for you. - Good luck.

battery box, October 27, 2006
By clayshooter from Republic, Mich. upper peninsula

"The size 31 marine deep cycle battery does not fit in the battery box adequately. Once the battery and cables are connected the lid does not close properly. After 2 seasons of use the batterycondition indicator did not work. This is the power station battery box. I will try the other power station battery box you offer this spring."
