Worst Product ever purchased,August 16, 2009

"Having your fishing gear 2000 miles from home, you need products that perform far away and when I bought a new 75 Etec I installed a Navigator 65-5200 on it. First year, mounting bracket broke and motor fail. Second year bracket broke again. Third year Motor failed in water and mounting bracket started fractureing again. I'm in frashwater and my brother had them in saltwater and his failed as well. Word to the wise - you take it from here!!"

Navigator works as advertized,October 22, 2008

"I purchased the 5200 Series model for my 1984 17' runabout using the Mercruiser Type 1 lower unit. I had read a previous review stating that this model is not compatible with the Type 1 lower unit, but decided to see if I could modify it to work, since I needed a trolling motor for the runabout and had no other possible solution. I found that by making a minor modification to the mounting bracket, the unit would work on the Type 1 lower unit. The modification just consists of a small grinding relief to provide clearance with the bolt that connects the two power trim cylinders. It was also necessary to mount the bracket towards the rear of the cavitation plate, rather than towards the front as the directions recommend. The performance of the unit is very good in all directions except reverse, which is to be expected. There is also no degradation in high speed performance and the boat continues to get up on plane quickly. I highly recommend this unit to anyone for this application. If you do have the Type 1 lower unit and have some mechanical abilities, you can make this work for you."

Clean compact installation,April 22, 2008

"I use the 52lb model on an 18 foot bowrider with stern drive. The trolling motor is always there when I need it - can even use it to move the boat off the trailer while the motor warms up. A little difficult to steer when the power steering pump is off, but that's not a big deal. I like the fact that I don't need to have a separate mounting bracket on the bow for a traditional motor. The only downside is that because it's pushing the boat rather than pulling heading into any sort of a wind is just about impossible since the boat tends to wander off course. So motor upwind and troll down....no problem! Seems like a high quality piece - have had no problems with it at all."
