Saddle Skins,November 9, 2009
By polyvectorfrom Central California
"These skins had plenty of good quality feathers. Many different sizes so you can use to tie a full size range of dry flies, from size 18 to 10. I was also able to use some of the feathers for wooly buggers."

Better than buying full necks,September 2, 2009
By BarryDfrom Wayne, NJ
"I find there is a lot of waste in buying full hackle necks because I rarely tie anything larger than a size 16. These saddle skins provide hackles long enough to make a couple flies and the price is right."

Recommended, BUT . . .,April 30, 2009
By Toledotimberfrom Toledo, OH
"I really like the saddle I got, but only because I went to the Dundee, MI store to pick it by hand. I would NOT buy these over the internet or through the mail. I had to go through three other saddles before I picked mine. The others had too wide a range of sizes on one saddle, and the colors differed greatly (even though they were supposed to be the same). The one I picked is perfect for #14-16 dry flies, with some 12s and 18s thrown in. One saddle at the store looked like it belonged in a saltwater streamer section--huge hackles in the #1-6 range and pretty inconsistent coloration.
Again, it's a great deal--if you can physically look at what you're getting. Otherwise, go with a "name" brand like Whiting or Metz."

Mixed bag,March 20, 2009
By sctroutfrom columbia, sc
"I recently purchased both the grizzly and cream saddles. I am very pleased with the grizzly saddle. The feather quality is excellent and would buy again. The cream saddle on the otherhand is fair at best. There is way too much webbing and underfluf. There might be 1/4 of the feathers on this saddle that are useable."

Great Product,October 29, 2008
By AndrewfromCAfrom San Jose, CA
"Tons of feathers. 90% or more of them are excellent, the rest are pretty good. Easy to use in any application. Each feather gives you 6-8" of usable length. Coloration is good. Price is a lot less that the local fly shop and the quality is equal or better. Plus, no CA sales tax for mail order! Can't beat that. A little oily/waxy in the package but can be washed off if that bothers you. Feathers are very flexible and uniform."

Saddle Skins - Good deal,July 23, 2007
By brooklynflyfrom Brooklyn, NY
"Cabela's Saddle skins are decent deal. Nice long, and narrow (but not too narrow) saddles great for wooly buggers, saltwater streamers (think really long flies), large dry flies etc. freshwater streamers etc. A nice range of lengths per cape. Natural colors are nice. I won't give them a five, because the consistency is a bit hit or miss - one cape seemed a bit oily and matted. But this was easily fixed by giving a handful of feathers a quick wash with mild dishwashing soap or shampoo(worth it cause a nice cape is hard to come by) How about some more dyed over solid colors - blues, yellows, olives etc?"

Great Quality!!!,April 9, 2007
By Kollmanfrom Hays, KS
"I am really happy with the quality of the feathers, the number on each saddle and the color. These feathers are really long and I can get 3 - 4 flies out of each one. Really worth the money! Colors are true all the way through and the variety makes finding a feather in the size I want is easy."

Geat deal,April 4, 2007
By Petie04from NE Michigan
"You can not beat the quality of this hackle for the price abelas sells it for. This is a must for anybody who ties streames or steelhead and slamon patterns. I have bought four different colors not and am very impressed with the quality. It also does not break easy which is another great feature of this product."

Saddle Skins for Wooly Buggers,November 21, 2006
By goldyfrom clinton NY
"I recently purchased the Cabelas Saddle Skins to utilize in tying wooly buggers and nymphs. I have been very impressed with how easy these feathers are to work with. The feathers are very long so depending on the size of fly, you may be able to ty several flies with one feather. Also of note is the very clean fibers with very little webbing until you reach the base of the feather. These are the best saddle skins that I have ever purchased. A great product that I will be recommending to my tying friends."
