Cabela's Dry Fly Necks are an excellent value and with quality you would expect from higher priced necks. All are relatively free
of web, stiff and small enough to tie down to size 18 hooks. The tips are rounded enough to make excellent wings on Adams and other patterns that call for hackle tip wings.
Colors: Grizzly, Blue Dun, Black, Dark Dun, Coachman Brown, Brown, Ginger Variant, Cream, Barred Olive.

Cabela's Dry Fly Necks,June 16, 2009
By MosquitoLakeRafffrom Mosquito Lake, OH
"Good quality, plenty of the smaller sizes for 16- 20 sized flies, and larger feathers for larger stuff. The webbing doesn't get too bad till you are pretty far down the feather. All in all a good deal."

STIFFED,August 25, 2008

"This neck turned out to have extremely dry, stiff and brittle feathers that were very difficult to ty with. Well worth the extra $ to buy quality necks. I will never buy these again."

TOO Soft,April 5, 2007
By fishwithaflyfrom Adirondacks of NY
"I received a gift certificate for Cabelas. I fish with a fly, guide fly fishing and tie my own flies for all trips--both personal and client oriented.
I took a shot at the Cabelas dry fly hackle. The brown I ordered was mostly black in the larger sizes. The grizzly looked good.
Hackle stems are stiff and the barbs are soft. Though the sizes are varied (I tie more larger flies in the 8-12 range) and relatively plentiful, the stimulators--my main reason for purchasing this hackle--lay flat. I tried varying the hackle lengths from my normal recipe. I tried cheating and trimming the barbs with scissors. All to no avail. With a size 10 stimulator tied on a Dai Riki 270 using 8/0 uni thread, portioned poly yarn bodies and standard amounts of deer hair, the hackle collapsed.
I have not fished the flies and can only hope that the softness will do well with fast heavy water...but I fear that it will not break the surface tension but rather fold and allow the fly to sink.
Next time I will save my money and wait to purchase a higher quality hackle like that of Whiting...which one can still get from Cabelas.
Maybe for wulff patterns where the hackle is doubled or even for smaller, lighter flies this hackle may be satisfactory at best."

Nice Feathers,February 8, 2007
By Kollmanfrom Hays, KS
"These have been really nice for most of the mayflies and other dry flys I have been tying. Good assorment of sizes and enough small ones to tie 14 and down with out looking too hard. Should last me a long long time with the amount I got on one neck."
