Worked Perfectly For Me!,
October 20, 2009
By pointemdown

"I installed the Trol-A-Matic easily on on 60hp Merc. Prior to installation, my minimum speed at 900RPM was 3MPH; maximum speed was ~31 MPH (speeds from GPS). Subsequent to installation, minimum speed, or should I say trolling speeds, became anywhere from 1MPH to 2.5MPH, 1100RPM to 1300RPM. I lost no top end speed. I am quite happy with the unit, and I would recommend it for similar motors. I noticed some loss of reverse at low RPM. Also, at high speed, prior to installation, my boat pulled somewhat to the right; after installation, the pull was eliminated."

WORKS GREAT,

"Just tested the new trol-a-matic, the lake was like glass, no wind. I run a 17.5ft., deep V , with a 50HP. My old plate would get my MPH down to 1.5 with a wind and a good chop. Trol-a-matic got my boat down to 1 to .09MPH, With no wind, so with a good wind and a good chop I'm looking at .7 or .8 MPH. This product is a keeper.. KEEP FISHING Propman"

"It came out of the box and onto my motor in 15 minutes. (the holes were already drilled in my cavitation plate). My lowest speed went from 3.4 MPH to .8 Mph. I have a 70 HP Mercury. First day out got a 12 lb Walleye. Boy, if thats not delivering the goods I dont know what is."

South Dakota 115 hp Yamaha,
August 6, 2009
By SouthDakotaRon

"Usually with something that is gained, something is also lost and that is true with this product".
1. It worked great in slowing down the boat and even had to give a little throttle to get to a good speed for trolling for musky.
2. Did not seem to affect the control (steer) of the boat much.
3. Reverse seemed to only be affected a minimal amount, no big deal.
4. The most disappointing result was that I lost about 5 mph off the top end speed of my boat (45 mph down to 40 mph). I guess I can live with this outcome, but was disappointed.
Overall a good product and it does the job with out having to mess around with some kind of cable to release a pin to put plate down into position and it goes on in minutes."

Trol-A-Matic Trolling Plate,
August 3, 2009
By Roosterb
from NC
|
"With the four stroke Yamaha, I could not get the needed trolling speed lower than about 3 1/2 mph. The trolling speed now can go as low as 1 1/2 mph. The factory says the wide open trottle with no interference whatsoever! But it did lower the top speed about 5 mph. CaBela's product infomation Depart. said because of the drag, the plate causes:"Some reduction in speed". This was not a bother as I don't pull ski's or run open much of the time. BUT, I have changed my prop to a larger one by 1 1/8" and from a 13 pitch to a 14 and will have back my top end if needed. The other thing is that when backing off trailer there is a reduction of power as you are sucking in on the trolling plate which reduces the amount of water coming towards the front of boat. Yes I would recommend this item and was easy to install."

"I bought the trolling plate that is supposed to work with an I/O. It was easily installed but, I'm sorry to say it had little or no effect. Even with a very low pitch prop I was unable to get below 3mph on my gps. It may work well on smaller engines but I can't recommend it."

A GOOD INVESTMENT,
April 20, 2009
By COUNTRYPUNK

"When i was originally in the market for a trolling plate i was looking at the style with the pull string (HAPPY TROLLER) but when i came across this one i thought i would give it a try. i am a salt water fisherman and i fish off a 17foot gregor with a 50hp merc on it. Before i had the trolling plate the slowest my GPS speed could get was about 3 mph and I would constantly have to hit my fuel primer on the motor to keep it running. Now with my new trolling plate i can troll under 1 mph and dont have to hit my primer bubble very often. put it this way 2 days ago i went out trolling for halibut for about 6 hours and had to hit the primer only a few times where as if i didnt have that plate. I would not be able to go 15 mins without hitting that primer. Quality built easy to install slows the boat down to good trolling speed gets my boat on a plane quick like a whale tail.
my only down falls with it is i lost about 2 mph off the top end and it takes a little longer for the steering to respond in a slow troll.
but it works great and gets me some halibut on the boat.
only thing is when you are installing make sure that you install that thing on straight as u can get it or it will make your boat pull one way or another"

Hands Off Trolling Plate,
April 20, 2009
By jr32
|
"I've used this product for 1.5 years and had a few friends that have used it.
It is one of the only ones that doesn't require a rope or cable, it is hands off.
This one was a replacement for one I had last year. The previous one broke one spring on my last trip of the year.
I guess to many quick take-offs.
I would recommend this one as the best one I can find, just don't take off quick every time."
