Retreat your canvas tents and tarps to make them water resistant again. Easy to apply: just clean and dry surface to be treated, then brush on Canvak. Let it dry. One gallon.
My tent was not leaking but is an older tent so I decided to restore with Canvak to protect the canvas. The only reason I did this was to maintain the canvas. The tent never had leaked in the past. First time out in heavy rain and snow and it leaked everywhere. It was used for 3-4 days in bad weather and the leaking seemed to decrease with each storm. I would not recommend this product.
The application process should be done in a low wind-no wind environment to prevent wastage. Note that the smell is so high that it took us a week before we could use our canvas top Land Rover. But best of all, the product worked- the canvas is soft and pliable. And in the right time too- our blazing temps for March and April require serious protection- and Canvak did it.
I have a boat along the coast and sun, salt water, and sea gulls play havoc with the canvass that covers the cockpit area, instruments, and seats. There is no doubt that Canvak has extended the life of my canvass by waterproofing and restoring. The smell reminds me of my young days of camping as the products properties of tents of old were the same. The smell dissipates in several days and the water beads up on the canvass. I apply it with a thick paint brush making sure to saturate the canvass. A great product.
