UDAP #12 HP Bear Spray with Hip Holster

Stop an angry, charging bear with this amazingly effective deterrent. UDAP Bear Spray has been proven effective in dozens of bear attacks. During a bow-hunt over a decade ago, Mark Matheny was attacked by a grizzly bear and suffered numerous bite lacerations in the head and neck. Mark's wounds would have been much worse, if not fatal, had it not been for a burst from a pepper spray that ended the attack. Mark's experience changed his life. Since then, he has dedicated himself to improving a product designed to safeguard people against maulings, and to help them coexist with wildlife.
The result is this spray, which consists of a super-hot, oil-based formula that instantly affects eye, nose and lung tissue to stop a charge. This formula is non-lethal, EPA registered, tested to 0 degrees Fahrenheit and is legal to carry across the Canadian border. It also is equipped with glow-in-the-dark safety cap for quick reference. A hip holster is included. Spray canister is 7.9 ounces.

UDAP Bear Spray
Date:
I've had this bear spray for about four years now. I'm from Bozeman Montana, so I typically do a lot of hiking in Yellowstone and I hunt quite a bit in the fall. I've had a couple close encounters with bears in Yellowstone and where I hunt, but thankfully I haven't had to use my bear spray yet. It is a really good thing to have for security though. During Archery season in the Gallatin National Forest my brother and I were heading out at 5 in the morning to where we had seen some elk the day before. About 2 miles in we heard some growling and very heavy breathing about 35 yards ahead of us. We froze and I grabbed my spray and had it ready in case the bear attacked. It ended up coming about 10 yards closer then did a semi-circle around us and left. We later saw it in daylight at a safer distance and it turned out to be about a 350 pound black bear. The pepper spray is a really big sense of security when hiking too. Two summers ago I was hiking in Yellowstone by Mount Washburn and I saw 3 grizzlies within 30 yards of the trail in pretty thick timber so I didn't notice them until they were pretty close. They popped their jaws several times and I had my spray out, but I just kept walking and thankfully they stayed where they were at. Recently I wanted to make sure that the spray still worked because it had an expiration date in 2008. It was windy and I sprayed it at what I thought was down wind. I got a very little bit of the spray and started coughing and my eyes were burning. After flushing my eyes with water it eventually got better, but my skin that was contacted with the spray burned for the rest of the day. Overall I believe that this is a great product and anyone that hikes or hunts in bear country should have one.

A trial shot.
Date:
A couple of years ago I had taken my bear spray with us on our vacation to my brothers place in Montana. Talking to my brother one evening I told him that I had a can of bear spray that I had for probably five years at least, he said to me well why don't you try it out with a little blast to see if it still works. Well I was down in his basement my wife was up stairs. I had my hunting bag with me sitting there in the basement. There was the bear spay in eye shot, so a bright thought came to me saying self it shouldn't hurt to give that spay a try. I was still in the basement when I took the spay aim it to a spot where my brothers bow was sitting, thinking I don't think this can of spray will even work. Well one little touch of the trigger and whoosh the spay put out a blast that was so big that it hit my bothers bow which was probably 10 feet away that the spray covered the bow and some old pillows and a old blanket.
Well I started coughing, gaging, sneezing, then I heard my wife who was up stiars start doing the same thing. We had to open ever door and try and get the smell out before brother came home. We did get the house aired out, I washed bros bow three times, and my wife washed the pillows and bankets three times. So I found out the spay is sooo powerful, it does and amazing job. Brother ask the question why didn't you try it out side, who would of thought of that. I'm amazed of the power of this product.

Great Product
Date:
I bought this product before taking a trip to Alaska, in which I would be doing a lot of hiking.
I found the information packet that came with it to be outstanding. Lots of good info on bears, what to do in many situations, and when to use the spray.
Thankfully, I did not have to use it, but I test fired it (as recommended in the info packet). The wind changed direction slightly and my wife and I got a whiff of this stuff. It is some nasty stuff--a good thing.
The holster that came with it is of high quality and is very comfortable to wear.
