Fishing Science Hook Set Pro™ Automatic Hook Setter

When a fish bites, the rod is automatically released and the fish is hooked – doesn't get much simpler than that. The Hook Set Pro works with nearly all rod types and is adjustable for size and type of fish.

Hook Set Pro
Date:
I bought two of the hook set pro to fish our local lake. Overall they work great. I like the idea I can be fixing a fishing pole, eating lunch or just working on some much overdue sleep.
Pros (3 total): 1 - Will set the hook when your not watching your line.. 2 - Once you have your line adjusted it will stay in place (even in the wind)... 3 - Fits in tackle box without get tangled with other items
Cons (3 total): 1 - At times when your hook set triggers it will land on the spinning part of your reel (one time I lost a fish due to the a tangled mess)... 2 - DO NOT USE WITH BRAID fishing line.it will cut a groove into your trigger area (10 pound test is what I used) 3 - Had to have one unit replaced (free, took a week to get to my house). When a fish triggered my hook set, the unit landed on rocks and broke the trigger (area where you loop the line through)

Love It!!!
Date:
Last fall, I was fishing in the Missouri River for whatever would bite. This was my first experience at using the Hook Set Pro product. It was a present from my wife, but I was skeptical that it would work. I fish a lot, and I had never heard of or seen anyone use a Hook Set Pro.
I installed it on a seven-foot, fairly stiff rod that was inserted into an inexpensive, stick-in-the-ground, coil-wire rod holder. It took me a few tries to get the hook setter to work just right, but I finally figured it out.
Side note: don't destroy the packaging. The instructions are on the back inside face, and you'll need to follow them the first time you use it. This is a very simple product, but it is not intuitive to use your first time.
After I was satisfied that I had the hook setter figured out, I cast a night crawler into an area of slow moving current, put the rod handle in the rod holder, bent the rod, and installed the Hook Set Pro in the second rod eyelet per the instructions. In about five minutes, the hook setter released the rod as advertised. The next thing I saw was the rod bending in half as the fish was hooked and started to run. That was a six-pound channel cat. That trip, I caught three smaller catfish and a ten-pound carp. I released the carp and kept the catfish.
Now, I use the Hook Set Pro whenever I’m bait fishing in fresh or salt water. I recently used it while fishing from an ocean pier in Monterey, California. When the fellow fishing next to me on the pier saw how well it worked, he asked if I had one he could buy. I told him I wasn’t selling mine, but I lent him one to use. We both caught several nice fish that day. Now, I carry a couple of spares in my tackle box to trade for other tackle, special bait, an adult beverage or two, or secret fishing tips.
One of the best features about using this hook setter product is that it nearly always lip hooks fish on the first bite. It sets the hook using the bent rod similar to the way a downrigger does. As soon as the fish bites, the bent rod is released, and the rod snaps straight and sets the hook. It sets the hook so fast that it almost always hooks the fish in the lip. This makes catch and release far less harmful, because the fish doesn’t have time to swallow the hook.
Using the Hook Set Pro has dramatically increased the number of fish on my stringer each trip. I highly recommend this product.

It really works

I have used this product and it works pretty well. Great for fishing off the shore line with multiple poles when I fish for catfish.
