A handy, compact signaling horn that meets U.S. Coast Guard requirements. And it's built to last. It's fully waterproof, shock-resistant and stays afloat if you drop it overboard. Solid-state electronics are powered by one 9-volt battery (not included).
I often fish in my little 20ft cabin boat on a large Borneo river. Some parts are shallow and some of the best fishing is on the tighter, narrow bends.
The downside is the occasional huge log-carriers, massive barges that won't stop or change direction easily, so they need to know you're there well in advance. They just can't see you once they're too close and naturally follow the deep areas.
So, went fishing, with this little horn handy beside me. Sure enough, with a thunderous rumble, round the bend comes this huge logger. I pointed the horn at it and gave a couple of blasts.
The logger tooted back and eased over to the left, giving us plenty of room.
That they heard this thing at that distance and over the sound of those massive diesel engines proves it works well for it's intended marine use.
It's also waterproof, brightly colored and perfect to grab with you should you get shipwrecked. Signal fires and mirror signalling only go so far - if you need to attract attention this is gonna work, unlike any mounted 12v item still on the boat.
Comes with a mounting bracket too, though I'll have to get some proper stainless screws for it.
The sound is hard to describe, like an electronic siren. It certainly gets attention. Highly recommended.
I originally bought this to go to Yellowstone, just incase we had any run ins with bears, but glad to report we just got back and had none. But we tried it out before we left, and I am convinced that if we had used it on a bear, it would of hightailed it out of there!
