Description: Merkel Custom African Safari .500NE. This beautiful custom Merkel is No.1 of only two made for two business partners. These guns were made to customer specifications. The barrels are Octagonal. The fully engraved action has a gold Elephant head inlaid on the bottom. The half rib for the 4 leaf express rear sight and the ramp for the front sight are integral with the barrel’s midrib. This gun has either a weight or recoil reducer in the stock. The balance point is just in front of the trigger guard.This gun is just back from Africa, last year, after taking a Lion, an Elephant and 5 Cape Buffalo. It shows almost no wear other than a minor blemish to the stock finish at the toe of the stock, and some very minor corrosion on the top of the right barrel by the rear sight, which the former owner says was caused by Lion blood splatter. The bores are bright with good rifling. The action has bolsters and side clips and the standard Merkel cocking indicators. It has two under lugs and a Greener Cross Bolt. There is a reinforcing bolt with engraved ends through the stock behind the action. The breeches of the barrels are also engraved. There is a space on the engraved trigger guard for initials, which has not been used and there is an engraved pistol grip cap that also has available space.
