I cannot say enough good things about these pants. I had a different pair of convertable hiking pants that were too thin and baggy. If a briar caught it, my leg would feel the thorn. I saw these in the Fort Worth Cabelas store and really liked the thicker, tougher fabric, plus they were on sale, so I grabbed them. I am an arborist in addition to an outdoorsman so I thought these might make great work pants for climbing trees in varying Texas weather as well. Well, I had a HUGE trimming job climbing and trimming 266 street trees this winter. I wore these pants pretty much every day on the 1.5 month long, 10 hr/day trimming job and I tell you what, they are rockstars! I put them to the test and they are the best pants I've ever worn. They kept me warm when it was cold, cool when it was hot, dry when it was wet/sweaty, and mobile and agile without being baggy and snaggy. They protected my legs from constant abraison from tree bark and brush and the fabric held up against that abuse very well. They fabirc is slightly napped now but still great considering what I put them through. I also worked like a dog in them and if they had to go several days without a wash, they still stayed dry, non-smelly, and clean feeling. That tells me that these are GREAT pants for those serious backcountry backpacking trips where you only want to pack one or two pairs of pants. I used them just yesterday fishing and really enjoy the ability to convert them to shorts. All in all, these pants perform like rockstars and I love them. I'm going to get a second pair. I'd recommend them to anyone who likes to get out and do anything rugged and outdoorsy.
Used these pants on Alaska sheep hunt, can hike in shorts and long underwear, may sound weird but it really works, can zip on legs as weather changes, as it does all day in Alaska, good quality, dries fast. Have pic of me in these pants with Dall Sheep.
These pants are just what I was looking for. They are more durable than the ultra-lightweight nylon fishing pants, yet still cool and lightweight for summer fishing and hiking and early fall camping or hunting. I plan to buy another pair. The only drawback is that they are a little overpriced.
The pants do not get too hot like some of the others I have tried. It is great to be out in the woods and be able to ventilate your legs or just zip off the legs into shorts. The material is tough enough to be worn every day and lasts for years. The zippers are easy to work but seem to be the weakest link on the pants. The zippers on the crotch still have lasted for years. With these pants, you do not want them too tight, you can tighten down the waist with the built in belt. I think these are the best convertible pants on the market.
