Love em!
Date:
When these first showed up and I tried them on.....My wife laughed. They looked like I had put on a denim colored tent. I had ordered them a size larger than I normally would because, well let's face it, I ain't getting any younger and certainly not any skinnier. So...I was quite put out. BUT.....I went out on a limb rather than hassle with sending them back and gave them a couple of washings in hot water and a good drying. Glad I did. They still fit a little big but no longer look like a trash bag on me. They are rugged and comfortable and I will likely buy another pair.

Great, tough pants
Date:
I'm back for another two pairs because I've found these to be the stoutest things available (compared to regular and work Levis, Wranglers, Riggs workwear, or generic "carpenter" jeans) for remodeling and working on the house and for daily wear at work (auto and truck parts sales). Pockets for tools, flashlights, phones, pencils, pocketknives, tape measure (clipped on the hip pocket) and daily ccw usage. Can't even tear off a belt loop-stopped me in my tracks when it caught on a parts bin at work.
Sorry about the OP's problem with a zipper?, but I'd have sent those back as a defective pair. Carhartt has a solid reputation everywhere I've ever been for strong and durable work cloths, and it's well deserved. Buy with confidence.

Well made, but horrible zipper
Date:
These jeans fit at size after a wash. They also sit high on the waist eliminating the urge to always want to pull your pants up. The material really does feel heavy duty, and feels like it should last for some time. Now the reason for 3 stars, and why I wouldn't tell my friends to get them--the zipper, while a name brand, is horrible, and constantly falls down. Unlike some brands of zippers, there's no "catch" or anything incorporated into the tab to prevent it. It's a shame that a pair of well made heavy duty pants would be rendered useless by a poorly designed zipper. It looks like it may be possible to use a pair of pliers, and put a sharp bend, kink, or catch of sorts at the end of the zipper tab. Otherwise, you'll spend half your day pulling the zipper back up.
