These are the only jeans I ever buy my son. He always knows what he's getting for Christmas and he loves them. He's really tough on knees, so these jeans are great. He wears them to town and such when new, then for work after they have some miles on them. And believe me they get a lot of miles on them at work. I've even patched the knees after he's gone through them and the jeans continue to be worn for a couple more years.
I chop wood all day in the fall and winter. (That's dropping and hauling/ skidding etc.) Put a pair of chaps over em and you're good to go. You may even want to keep a nice pair to go out cassual.
This is a great idea for a pair of work pants if you work with chainsaws, grinders, chop saws, etc. They protect you without having to wear additional chaps or an apron. They keep sparks/hot particals from getting to your skin and add an additional layer of protection when using a chain saw for quick projects or yard work.
