A few clicks more aggressive than standard walkers, full-grain-leather 978s combine hiking-boot stability with walking-shoe comfort. Their trail-taming rollbars balance and stabilize your feet through each step, just like a pair of top-end hikers. Rock Stop plates shrug off abrasion from rocks and gravel. The Abzorb® heels and forefeet drastically reduce ground shock. Lightweight C-Cap® midsoles offer amazing flexibility. External heel counters lock in heels for rigid support. Waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® liners. Dual-density-foam collars. Imported.
Men's sizes: 7-15 D, EE and 4E widths. Half sizes to 12.

worst possible working conditions for shoes

My wife & I own a restaurant in Glenside, PA. My wife
has the chef's skills so I get to inventory, buy, stock, and
maintain the business. And I get to do the dishes!
Meat lockers, freezers, chicken, fish, beef drippings on warehouse floors, indoors & out, summer and winter.
And the dishes, BLEACH sanitizer, industrial strength degreasing dish soap. I need shoes that can survive this treatment. This New Balance 978 Country Walker
fits with the comfort of great bedroom slippers and puts up with 200 lbs. for 10-12 hours from day one
with no back or foot pain. Restaurants eat shoes in months, not years. These shoes will give me years
of hard work. 13 years here and I've never walked into a more comfortable or more promising pair of shoes. Thanks!

Disappointing

I have bought New Balance trail walking shoes from Cabelas for over 10 years. Went from 974 NB to this shoe. Shoe hurt my heel almost immediately. Wore for 2 months to try to "break" it in. Finally had to go back to my old worn out 974's. Heel of shoe is too stiff and hard. I'm on this website to order another pair of 974's - a really comfortable shoe. Hope NB can do something to improve comfort of this shoe, especially at price they charge.

Not Good For My Body

I purchased these shoes because I needed a good, sturdy pair of walking shoes. I had not had good luck with non-leather shoes in the past. I had to send back the first pair and reorder one size larger. They appear to be really good shoes; however, when I wear these shoes and walk any distance they cause me to have a pain in my hip and legs that does not go away for several days.

978 country walker

Had to buy these shoes one full size bigger than normal. Purchased D width and they are loose fitting and do not support your feet. After a short walk in the woods my feet were hurting. Pulled the laces up tight in an attempt to get support and then the toe of the shoe all buckles up making them look bad. Also the wife purchased a pair and within a month the leather tore at the point where they are glued to the sole. I have always been a big fan of New Balance and have owed many pairs. These shoes are not up to New Balance standards.
