Really struggled to decide whether I could recommend this boot. Very comfortable, great fit. But, as with two other Simms wading boots I've recently purchased and then returned, the soles started to delaminate after half a dozen uses. I've had to reglue the soles in two locations (toe; inside ball of foot) using good old barge cement).
I ordered a pair of Simms Guide boots a week before I headed to the Margaree in Cape Breton. They arrived in time and was I happy I had them!! The walk to the river was a sea of slippery red clay mud and the free stone river bottom was a challenge, but compared to my felt soles these boots were up to the task. While my fishing partners were slipping and sliding in their felt boots I waded with confidence and hooked two Atlantic Salmon . Thank you to Cabelas for the on time delivery and Simms for a superior product.
Recently purchased and used for a Colorado fishing trip. These boots definitely live up to the hype. We did alot of hiking to the river with some streatches on moderately difficult terrain and these boots felt no different than some hiking boots I've had in the past. Once on the river they performed wonderfully. I do have to admit that they did not grip as well as felt (I'd say about 90%) but that's a small price to pay to protect the environment. I did purchase the cleats but didn't put them on but I am sure that should bridge the gap between felt and the rubber if the wading is really treacherous. If you still have felt, change your boots to these and you won't be disappointed.
Great boots. The fit is much more like a hiking boot, rather than the G4's. The Guides aren't as heavy, and dry a little quicker. I don't think that they are built to the level that the G4's are, but they are still a rock solid boot, that will last for years. They are very comfortable both in, and out of the water. If you are looking for a boot to hike in, this is it.
