Comfy boot- not for fishing.
Date:
I got the Caney Fork to replace my SLT felts which I loved. The boots are very comfortable, however the cleats come out of these boots. I have been through more cleats than the boots are worth. I am going to buy a pair of Simms, which don't fit my feet as well but are reliable for traction. If you fish where traction is not an issue, then go ahead and use these boots

comfortable, but no traction
Date:
I tried to make the change away from felt soled wading boots so purchased these Chota boots and the additional carbide-tipped cleats. I fish mostly in New England rivers where there are large rocks/boulders (often smooth granite) to navigate while moving about the water. I can honestly say I've never fallen or almost fallen so much while fishing because I find that neither the rubber on the soles of these boots nor the cleats provide significant traction on submerged or dry structure. There is NO comparison to the Simms felt soled cleated boots I had. I actually had to purchase a wading stick to move around the rivers which helps a little but still doesn't make me feel that confident.
The overall comfort is excellent, roomy in the toes and stable in the ankle (which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1 star), almost like a hiking shoe. But if you're looking for a boot that provides some security while walking through the water and moving over rocks, this is not it.

Best Wading Shoes
Date:
Just fished with my Caney Fork's in a very challenging river. I was a bit skeptical -- I had a pair of Chota STL's for over 10 years. I bought a set of cleats and was ready to install them if necessary (had to have them on my felt shoes on this river) The Caney Forks were excellent for hiking and wet wading. They have great support for the foot and ankle. The treads have very good grip on river stones with algae and slime. The lacing system is the ultimate -- never come loose or untied and manageable with gloves. Chota believer.

Disappointed with boots
Date:
First pair of rubber soled boots. Disappointed in that the boots don't protect the sides of your feet against rocks and other stuff you bump into. Bought the suggested cleats and they are to 'pointy' and don't grip or wear good...I slipped alot more than in felt soles. Used these 3 days on a trip to CO in July. The good points are the lace up system and they are light.
