The hard-rubber cleat receptacles are compatible with both steel and carbide tipped cleats to double your ground-gripping options. EVA insoles and 1/4"-EVA footbed liners remove to make room for stockingfoot waders, or leave them in place for an added layer of warmth while feet are submerged in a cool stream. Dual-density rubber outsoles provide traction over a wide range of wading and trail conditions. Microscreen drains rapidly release water, while simultaneously blocking unwanted pebbles and sand from entering. Waterproof, full-grain nubuck uppers. Imported.

Excellent Experience in Alaska
Date:
I purchased these boots in anticipation of the ban on felt soled wading boots that will go into effect in SE Alaska (next year) as I prepared for my recent trip. I also bought a set of Chota Carbide Tip Spikes from Cabelas, which easily installed in the boots. I had an excellent experience on all types of bottoms - mud, sand, gravel and rock - while fishing for salmon, trout, grayling, char and dolly varden on two separate river systems. The boots were extremely comfortable, and I was wearing them 8 to 10 hours per day. One observation - order them one size larger than your shoe size if you are using stocking-foot waders with neopreme feet and wear them with the liners in them. The pair I ordered in my shoe size were too small, even with the liners removed.

Poor footing on round wet rocks, otherwise OK
Date:
I would describe myself as an aggressive wader with years of experience using studded felt sole boots. I almost never fall. I purchased these for a fishing trip to Chile since the lodge did not allow felt sole boots or studs.
The boots are very comfortable and I only used them with the innersole removed for use with stocking foot waders. I found them to be too loose with hiking socks for walking. However, they were very comfortable when used with stocking foot waders with the innersole removed.
I was skeptical about their ability to provide good footing since they are rubber soled. I found the traction was very good on wet grass, moss, sand, gravel and crushed stone. However, if you plan to fish a river that has fast water that creates round stones, you will be very unhappy. I found these boots to be unusable on round stones wet and submerged rocks. When rocks were coated with a thin layer of slime or dirt, it was impossible to wade and remain standing. If you use these boots under these conditions, you must use a wading staff. I did not try the boots with studs, as they were not allowed on the rafts and drift boats.
I will try them with studs before deciding if I will return them. For some fishing venues it may be necessary to have non-felt soled shoes. But based on my experience, that is the only time I would use them.
