I used this for the first time last weekend on a bird hunt in Maine. The weather was in the mid to upper 70s both days we hunted. I wore this with only an orange long sleeved tee shirt and was very comfortable. I didn't use the bird hangers since my buds both had regular vests with game pockets. It was light weight and comfortable. The two water bottle holders were absolutely perfect for the warm weather. The storage pockets have room for a compass and GPS along with some snacks and a full box of 20 ga shells (10 in the loops). If it had quieter material, I would consider using it for still hunting deer. Thanks Cabela's.
Very happy with this product. I hunted pheasant in 85 deg weather with a quick dry shirt and this pack only. Pack holds water, license, tools, and shells (ten in loops at the ready, rest of the box in side pouches). Gives some back support too. I was much cooler than my partners. Anyone who likes the freedom of hunting or fishing without a vest with a belt pack will appreciate this item.
Neck hooks work ok, but I removed the one on my gun side. Because of its location, it can result in scratches of your stock. Mine is an older version without game straps, but those are easily made from parachute cord and split rings and attach to the D-rings. The hanging birds get caught on vegetation so having a place to put birds between fields was helpful but I've carried birds for hours.
Zippers are only of ok quality and smoothness, but they haven't bound or broken. Material resists snags, abrasions, etc.
I picked this item up at the beginning of last season to use on those days when a vest was a little too warm for the conditions. Very comfortable with excellent storage for short hunts. The only issue I found was that the hanging birds bumping up against your legs as you walked could be annoying. Well made and worth the expense to have as a hunting option.
