Excellent light hunting boot
Date:
I've had these for a few months now, and continue to be very happy with them. They were a bit stiff at first, but soon softened up, while still remaining very supportive. They are light, effortless to walk in, and very quiet.
Obviously they aren't designed for really cold conditions, but we don't really have those here, and for hunting or just walking around in mild, warm to hot conditions, or a bit of mud, they are great.

Good light hunting boot
Date:
I have never worn the original Ibex boot but have many other Meindl boots. They are very stiff to break in but if you give them time and some wear they will break in.Replace the foot beds with the Perfekt foot beds and they are like a new boot. For the price they are worth the break in period.

Great Boot For Hot Weather and Rocky Terrain
Date:
I too had the original Ibex boots and was skeptical at first. While the new style has some definite cosmetic changes and the materials are different this boot still delivers if you give it sufficient break in time--and that is at least two weeks, with some real hiking socks. These boots seem almost more sturdy than the original Ibex. In fact my originals blew out in the heel where the canvas meets the leather and these Ibex are almost solid leather in the back. I work outdoors in dry tropical forests on an island and these boots are far more water-proof than the original Ibex plus the footbeds are superior to the original model. I have worn them every day for 7 months and am putting an average of 10-15 miles of hiking a week in on them through muck and mud. Sure, they lack the tongue lace and the leather does not fit to your foot like the original, but they are tough and great for hot, rocky terrain. I bought these and the new Pronghorns from Danner. The Danner boots had little ankle support and were very hot. I sent them back to Cabelas for anothe pair of Ibex boots. At this price you cant go wrong. I just wore them through Hurricane Irene! Still got wet but these boots were great wet and dry.

save your feet
Date:
when cabelas introduced the original ibex boot, I purchased a pair after trying on all the rest of the meindl boots. they seemed to be a instant source of comfort that i knew I would be able to endure hours of walking the mountains of colorado. the old ibex boots required no break-in period. they were perfect from the second you put them on your feet. I owned four pairs of them, wearing them until the stitching started separating and leaking water. they withstood hundreds of miles on each pair through very rough country and numerous soakings.
after learning that for some unknown reason, cabelas discontinued them and switched to the new ibex pro boot, I went to the store to order another five pairs of the old model, but there wasnt any left in my size. I was forced to try the new boot.
It was uncomfortable the second I put it on. I thought that maybe a break-in period would do the trick so I took them home and wore them around the house. they were so uncomfortable that I only lasted about one hour. they pinched around my heels and were to the point of causing blisters. the boots were nothing like the old boots.
I'm not sure as to why cabelas chose to end a good quality product that received 4.5 stars on its reviews with a product that now receives 2 stars.
I hope that cabelas will bring back the old model.
