I bought these boots recently for hunting in Arizona desert and scrub brush mountain areas. The boots are quite flexible and quiet with quality traction for loose rock and gravel often found in the desert. I guess my calves are larger than average because I was unable to lace all the way to the top. The confidence I have while walking, stalking, kneeling, etc., is worth every penny I paid for these high quality boots. I recommend a good pair of polypropylene liner socks and wool outer socks or your favorite hiking sock. Boots are just a hair smaller than I thought, but really are right on for size. Being that they are non-insulated and made for warmer climate, if I planned to wear heavy socks I would order a half size larger. I have one foot bigger than the other and chose to order them at a half size so they were snug rather than loose which really hurts when in the mountains if my feet are moving in my boots. I recommend them if you have the cash and need snake protection. Around here, you will most likely lose a limb or worse if bitten. Since most all things in the desert either picks, sticks, stings, bites, or burrows, these are a great comfort.
So far, I used these boots on a hand full of hunting trips and I am impressed. The waterproofing was tested when I walk about two yards through six to eight inches of Florida swamp. The comfort was tested in the forest scouting for hours of walking, crouching, and even some careful jumping. These boots are worth every penny. I would buy them again. And if you buy them and don’t like them Cabela’s return policy and customer service is great. I first didn’t take the advice from the description of the boots to order a half of size bigger and had to return them. To my relief, I only had to complete a brief questionnaire and drop the boots off at the nearest UPS store in the same box they came in with the return label that was already provided. Note: definitely get a half size larger than your normal size. One thing that did worried me was when I first purchased the boots I of course had to test them out. So, I filled the tub and started walking(yes my wife was making fun of me the whole time). The boots did not leak but the cloth of the boots did get saturated and the inside of the boots got slightly moist, not wet (stuff the boots with news papers after saturation it will help expedite the drying process). I figured that the only way this would not be a concern would be to buy rubber boots.
I bought these boots for bow hunting season in North Florida. It is hot and there are lots of snakes in the swamps! Fortunately I haven't tested out the snake proof part of the boots, but they are waterproof and are fairly comfortable for the money. They are a little stiff out of the box and are a little tough to get on and off, but that is typical for a high lace up boot.
This boot is the most comfortable and well fitting snake boot I have ever purchased. I have worn this boot for several years and I hunt hard over terrain that is both wet (crossing creeks and ditches), steep (hunting hills and valleys) and challenging in that without a proper fit a person would have real problems with blistering and sore ankles etc. This boot is water proof and allows me to move fast on moving game, especially spring turkey. It comes in half sizes and many different widths also. I highly recommend it.
