Good sweater
Date:
My brother has the same sweater but he got it a few years ago. I really liked his so I ordered one and I like it. I do not think it is near as heavy though. It is very warm and does cut the wind but I was hoping it would be heavier like the older version. All in all it is a great sweater but i wish cabelas wouldn't have started making them lighter weight.

Not what it used to be
Date:
I have had one of these great for about 3-4 years and I wore it constantly fishing, hunting, camping, skiing, and other outdoor activities. This sweater was very warm and totally blocked the wind. It was my go-to garment for cold weather.
Unfortunately the sweater suffered an untimely demise when it was placed in the dryer on high (had been washed many many times before sucessfully but dried with low heat) and came out several sizes smaller. It has now been taken over by my 12 year old son (who stole it from my wife) and he wears it constantly outside in cold weather - especially fishing when the cold wind cuts across the lake.
My wife ordered me a replacement sweater a couple of weeks ago. I have already been on several successful hunts with it. However the new version of the sweater is a much lighter wool fabric and the weave is much looser. This in spite of the fact that the other sweater had been washed so much and has lost some thickness. This is very apparent when I compare them side by side. It still cuts the wind due to the wind-shear lniing, however it is not nearly as warm as the previous version. I can even wear it inside which was not possible with the previous version.
Also I don't think that the lighter fabric will hold up nearly as well on tough hunts - in brush and briars. Cuffs are already starting to stretch.
Cabelas - please do not cheapen your products. Bring back the old heavier wool fabric.
I give this 3 stars because it is still a great sweater and better than others. However - I would have rated the previous version a 5.

UNBEATABLE
Date:
This sweater is the best thing going for staying warm wheteher steelhead fishing, sitting in a stand, or it is even nice enough to go out for the evening. I have three and that doesn't seem to be enough. There is NO wind, the hold off the damp and wet, and they are WARM. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for reducing the number of layers they want to where and yet stay warm.
