Great boots. I had one pair for about 8 yrs and on my second pair. I live in the northwest, so it's wet. My only issue is I have problems with the leather beginning to crack after 3 or 4 years. I oil them before each season, but I'm guessing when we move from hunt to hunt and are in the pickup, the heat causes them to crack/age prematurely. I would recommend letting them dry naturally or very low heat. Have to say, it's probably more of my conditions than anything and still recommend these boots for comfort and really, overall durability.
These are USA Danner's not the made in China Danner's. These boots are well made. Break in was shorter than I expected and they are good year round here in North Dakota except for extended stays outside during the coldest months. Like any top quality product, they are worth the money. I have two years in these boots already and with a little boot cream, they are like new.
I was really excited about these boots, even after they arrived. The break in time was not as lengthy as expected. Then I found them to quickly get "too soft" where the heel/rear of foot support was not as stiff as I needed, particularly in my right boot. if i stepped down sideways on the outside of my R heel, the boot flexed and my heel slid to the outside of the boot. This led to me walking gingerly in them around town to avoid twisting my ankle or knee, obviously not what one wants in a backpacking shoe. Ive felt some other older pairs of the same boot and they seem much more stiff around the heel. Maybe it was just that particular batch of leather was not as sturdy as others, or the heel support piece sewn into the boot has changed into something flimsier. I really didn't want to send them back though...b/c other than that problem they were comfy and great looking. I also found the volume to be very small, not providing enough room for my insoles. But they come with a heel insole that works. Something to keep in mind for those that have insoles they cant go without, or high arches/weak ankles that need lots of support. Cabela's was great about the exchange and return!
This is a great pair of boots. Excellent for hunting, fishing and working. Living in North Dakota they are suited for all four seasons. They are lined nicely but not insulated, so I wouldn't recommend them for very cold (10 degrees or less) temperatures.
As with all quality boots they are stiff at first and will require some break-in time, but they are very comfortable. Delivery is estimated at 2-3 weeks but they arrived in 6 days.
