I enjoy wearing Danner hikers and the comfort and support they provide. I was looking for something to wear to work that was low cut. Same Danner quality you'd expect from a hiker you get with this low cut shoe. I have wide feet and ordered EE. These shoes not only look good but are comfortable and supportive. They ship with shoe laces which are way too long. I swapped out the laces for shorter ones and am totally satisfied.
I've had several sets of Danner low hikers and found them instantly comfortable and sturdy enough to do moderate trail hikes as wells as just to wear around town. So, I got these as a replacement. This was a far different shoe. Caution, I have some arthritis in my feet and like a really comfortable shoe. There are clunky, they just don't have the flexibility that the others had. You feel like you are going klomp, klomp, klomp when walking with these. My attempts to break them in have so far been unsuccessful. They also are a much heavier shoe. In spite of gore-tex's claimed ability to breathe, these shoes don't. I wore them with synthetic socks and by 2 pm my socks were soaked and my feet stunk to high heaven. It wasn't quite so bad when I wore cotton socks. They might be good with a liner sock and wool sock on a trail hike, but I have yet to try that. Also, they just do not have the instant comfort that my other Danner boots and shoes have had. If you mail order these, try them around the house for awhile first so you can send them back.
When the Cabela's store opened in Springfield, Or. I was able to actually go in and see all the stuff I thought I needed---like a kid in a candy store. One purchase I had put off until the store opened was a pair of low hikers. I was able to try on four or five different pairs, and chose the Danners. They seemed more comfortable, lightweight and cushioned. Having worn them for several months, I am not disapointed. Only negative was that they are sturdier then many of the other low hikers and took a fair amount of time to break in. These are not a pair of tennis shoes that were called hiking shoes. These are a lightweight boot, very comfortable, reasonable support for a low hiker, and completely waterproof. Good traction in mud, on rocks and climbing hills. I would not hesitate to recommend these boots to a friend, and they exhibit all of the high qualities I've come to expect in Danner boots.
