I am a twenty one year old musher and I have no tolerance for the cold. I am from Kansas and live in Northern Maine now and I hate the cold. I needed to find a nice insulated coat to run the team in, even when days/nights get below zero. I found this coat and LOVED it, I was a little iffy about the size and did not like the color, I never order anything online. Unfortunately they only had XL in olive green and I could fit in a L or even a M, but I needed a coat so I ordered it. I would not have traded it for the world, it is simply amazing. It keeps me warm and toasty while on the trails with the team. The fur helps keep the wind off my face and I love that, especially when running across a field or a lake. I do wish I could have gotten it in the other color, but it is so amazing and warm I do not care what color it is! I do not see how anyone could be disappointed with this coat! It is amazing and so worth the money!
I am Extremely Impressed with the Quality of this Heavy Duty Winter Parka. This is the one you want in Very Cold Weather. I live in Nashville, TN, and sometimes we get around 0 degrees, but I travel to Bloomington/Normal Illinois 1 or 2 times per month. This Parka is perfect for the very cold wind chills/blizzards, whether you're stranded on the road, or you have to shovel a lot of snow while the Wind is blowing 25 mph. I really like The Real Furr Ruff. This is 4 to 6 inches thick, and covers the whole hood, and is made for a really heavy Blizzard. I am easily able to tighten it down and cover my face if necessary (a Blizzard#. You can zip it off if you don't need it #detach it#. The Main Zipper - I think it is great because it is a dual zipper #that's what I call it anyway#. On a regular jacket #waist length# you just plug the zipper in and pull it up. Well this is a Parka, and the bottom of it is about 6 inches above my knee, so you plug the upper zipper into the bottom zipper and jiggle it a little to get them started #but this is no problem for me). Once zipped up, you can Simply pull the bottom zipper up to open the bottom, and this is for Several Reasons, 1 - If you stop at a store or gas station and have to Pay for gas or supplies, you just pull the botton zipper up to get to your Wallet, change, etc... that's in your pants without having to un-zip the whole coat from the top, and 2 - You can have the Top part zipped and loosen the bottom part for comfort in the car, truck, restroom, etc... I like this feature. Size, Okay, I think the Size on the Cabelas Coats for some people may be a little Big to allow for Layering, but everyone is different. I am 5' 10" and 184 pounds, waist 34 to 36, and I ordered the Medium Regular. It fits fine, and I still have room to Layer which for me is a sweatshirt and possibly a flannel shirt, or a sweater, even the goose down vest which I will Never need with this Parka. I used to be overweight at 205lbs (big gut) and I would have ordered the size Large. All of my Orders from Cabelas have been "Blind", meaning from the internet, without having the option to go to a local store, and I have never had a problem. I have waited to get this for the last 2 winters, but I waited too long and my size was sold out. This time I got it. I know I Will Never be Cold Again. The first time I put it on I realized this is the Real Thing. I am Extremely Impressed.
Just received my new coat that I plan to use in Fort Myers& Edmonton Canada. I am really disappointed with the 550 down fill. This coat is promoted as the best but the down seems very minimal at best. The unit is certainly sold at a premium price but is of much less quality than I thought it would be.
Addi tonally the zipper is very light duty and I had a very hard time getting it started. In short I am unhappy with my decision to purchase this coat.
