Ever wish you had the versatility of going from hunting boots to hip boots in a few seconds? Now you can with Cabela's Tundra Hip Boots. Lightweight, two-layer uppers can be converted in seconds to hip boots. Elastic belt straps can be adjusted with one hand. The silent and quick-tightening closure system around the thigh holds securely and keeps uppers from sliding down. With the unique and highly functional storage systems, the uppers can be rolled down, out of the way and kept dry for future use. These tough hip boots are perfect for trudging though spruce bogs in search of moose, crossing damp tundra in pursuit of migrating caribou or launching and retrieving watercraft. The 14"-high boots are made of synthetic leather featuring quick nine-point, lace-up fronts over 3mm neoprene for waterproof comfort and warmth. Tough, heel toe caps and internal side boot reinforcement for added durability and support. EVA midsoles are lightweight and mesh with the traction rubber soles. The hip boots weigh less than 4 lbs. Imported.

tough boots
Date:
When i got these boots i didnt really think they could hold up to any abuse, but after having them for this hunting season i would recommend them to anyone. first i work in the arctic off the haul road and i did a lot of hiking and fishing in these boots this summer to break them in and they worked beautiful even across tussuks. as for ankle support, if you never walk on unstable ground in normal life your ankles wont hold up in these boots, but if you have reasonably tough ankles i dont see any problem and have not twisted an ankle in them yet across tundra tussuks up and down mountains side hilling for hours not a problem. I Hunted Elk and Moose this year in these boots and they were outstanding. the only problem i can see is they do just as good of a job keeping moisture in as keeping it out. And i worked these boots hard this season so the true test will be seasons to come and how long they can take the torture.

Not Bad
Date:
Seems to be a trend here--I purchased these for an extended Alaskan moose hunt. Ended up using chest waders most of the time due to high water on the river but did have a chance to use these for several days in the sloughs and swamps behind camp. They performed admirably and will no doubt get plenty of use on future hunts. The cons that come to mind after a few days in them: they are cut wide, which allows a narrow foot such as mine to "roll" inside the boot--tussocks aren't much fun anyway but tougher when your foot slides around inside your boot. Also, a weak link in my estimation is the large expanse of lacing exposed to the brush when walking. I modified a pair of Viet Nam-era surplus gaiters to protect the laces from the alder and willow thickets. Your feet WILL sweat in these (neoprene--duh!)--not well suited for hot weather and be prepared for chilly toes in cold weather! Lastly, it might also be nice to include a small patch kit like the high-end waders do. All in all, a really cool concept, just not perfect for every situation

Good idea, poor execution
Date:
I got these boots anticipating to use them on my many hunts in Alaska, especially Hull Road tundra hunts. Unfortunately, I just returned them. This boot has horrible ankle support. The material in the boot part is so flexible that it bends and even mends into the foot in certain places while walking. Good hunting boots for Alaska are stiff. There is no way I am walking 5 miles in Tundra with the increased risk of spraining an ankle in that uneven ground in these flimsy boots. I'm not sure how these helped the other reviewers on their Alaska hunts, especially any involving mountain climbing; must have been guided and easy for these boots to work.

Depends on Conditions
Date:
I didn't have "It Depends" as a choice for recommendations. Ordered a pair for an early season bear hunt in Alaska. Started breaking them in by hiking the neighborhood at night. Every time I got back, my feet and calves were soaked with sweat. Just too much neoprene for warmer weather or extended hikes. These boots are not at all breathable. I expect to be doing lots of hiking, and the temperatures in early September can get pretty warm. Plus, where I'm hunting, I will only need them for an occasional stream crossing. However, if the conditions were right, I think they would be worth it - colder weather and/or more frequent water crossings will keep temperatures inside the boot down. Or, more likely, conditions where hiking distances are light to moderate.
