These are the best shoes I have ever wore!! I wear them to work everyday. They have out wore shoes and boots that I have spent twice as much for and still look GREAT . If I could give the ten stars I would. Get you a pair you won't be disappointed.
I purchased this boot after owning and loving the softpaw version that does not have the waterproof membrane. I love the fit and feel of that boot, and felt that if they added a gussetted toungue and waterproof membrane, it would be perfect, so when I saw this one available I jumped on it. This is a good boot and good value when compared to other brands, but there are a few differences in fit and feel compared to the non-waterproof version: 1) the leather on this boot is a little more stiff, and requires a longer break-in period; 2) it is a little taller, so it sits a little higher on the ankle, which takes some getting used too; 3) I am not sure if it is the DryPlus membrane or what, but there is more padding around the ankle, which makes it a little more bulky; 4) the sizing is a little different; I wear a 9.5 in the other version, but in this one my toes were hitting the end, so I had to go with a 10; I have a narrow foot, so that results in a little lift now.
I would recommend this boot, but would order and/or try on several sizes, especially if transitioning from another Irish Setter boot. FYI, I plan on taking both this pair and the non-waterproof version on my upcoming Africa hunting trip in May 2012, so I have been critically evaluating this boot and others before making the decision.
My first ever pair of Irish Setters and I am hooked! These are a great boot. As soon as the temps drop a bit I wear these as an everyday boot in the office. They look sharp and are very comfortable! A bit to warm in the summer for me or I would wear them all year round! 100% waterproof keeps my feet dry when scooping the snow before work too. Great boots!
I bought these to wear on an 8 day trip to Washington DC where I needed a shoe capable of long walks during the day and looking decent enough to wear to supper at night. They needed to handle snow and rain. These boots performed with flying colors. They are extremely comfortable, easy to get on/off, and still gave great support. I wear an 8.5 D with Thorlo socks and an 8.5 here was perfect. There is a lot of room in the toe and, if anything, I'd go to a EE before I went to a 9 D. But, 8.5 D worked perfectly for me.
These will be my travel shoe of choice for everything except serious hiking.
