The Headwater? Day Pack can get all your gear to the river or help you lug it around town. The versatile pack gives you the option of a multifunctional chest pack accessory attachment on the front straps or on the main panel for storage and transport. The pack is reinforced with ballistic fabric at strategic, high-wear locations for extra abrasion resistance. The shell is made of 1,680-denier ballistic nylon with a 210-denier nylon interior. A handy internal compartment can store water or a laptop. Internal and front zippered pockets are perfect for digital cameras, PDA or iPod?. Increased ventilation via the air-flow chamber on back panel. Side-stretch mesh pockets cradle refreshments or rod tubes. Side-elastic compression straps prevent line catching and includes a stash pocket. Additional storage is available in the zippered front pocket. Best Fishing Backpack Out There....., August 28, 2009

"I looked far and wide for a backpack for hike-in fly fishing trips and decided on this one, and I love it. It's one of the only ones that will allow you to securely lash one or two 4-piece rod tubes to the sides, using the special lash straps and the mesh pockets. There are even little pockets to tuck the lash straps away when not in use so they won't snag on brush. It's very well thought-out and obviously designed by people who actually fly fish - everything is where it needs to be and nothing is where it shouldn't be. Attention to detail is impressive, for example, not only does it have a top-rear mounted D-ring to attach a net (not all do), but you can open the pack without moving the net AND the ring is even NON-MAGNETIC so as not to interfere with magnetic net holders. Another great feature is the mesh panel in the integral "frame" is held away from the pack so air can circulate between your back and the pack itself - great on hot summer days. If you don't like walking miles in waders the main compartment will hold stockingfoot waders and anything else you need for a day trip, but not wading boots also. (I just lash those to the outside of the pack with bungees, since they are going to be dripping wet anyway.) The larger "backpack" model gives more room and adds a couple of storage pockets on the sides but gives up the mesh pockets and rod tube carrying feature. With this pack and my lanyard for tools, I'm good to go for the day."
