cva optima rifle,November 1, 2009

"These are good muzzle loaders. I have seen a lot of complaints about accuracy. The 209's are now the entry level Optimas as the predecessor "OPTIMA PRO " (which has a fluted BERGARA barrel on it) deliver easily, one inch groupings at 100 yards. If you need tighter groups spend the money and buy the ACCURA, which is a redesigned OPTIMA PRO. As an adamant CVA user, I can say that I have had the best accuracy using 90gr. of triple 7 powder (not pellets) with a 245 gr. POWER BELT AERO-TIP bullet and WINCHESTER 209 primers for triple seven. 100 yard groupings off a gun rest at less than 1 inch. GOOD LUCK and GOOD HUNTING."

CVA Optima,September 22, 2009
By ikefrom Enola, Pa.
"Very nice gun, the thumbhole stock is excellent and has a nice feel. I especially like that I can shoot it either right or left handed.
The accuracy is not what I would like it to be. I can only get 3.5" groups at 100yds. I have tried several different bullets and powers with no luck to improve accuracy. I have two CVA Wolf's for my twin boys and both guns hold 1.5" groups at 100yds. I am not sure why I cannot get this gun to shoot any better...
All-in-All it’s a good gun and I would recommend it for shots out to 100yds with no problems. If you are looking for shots out too 200yds this may not be the gun for you."

"After many hours of research I picked the CVA Optima. Sure There is enough brands out there that claim to be the best. After getting this gun and going to the range I am very happy. I am an open sight shooter. I have never had a desire to shoot over 50 yards. It is more rewarding for up close shots. This gun has enough power with 2 50 grain pyrodex pellets and a 245 grain powerbelt areotips. Great gun with a great price."

CVA Optima 209,February 22, 2009
By Coop243
"I bought the CVA Optima a few weeks before muzzleloading season this year, and was very dissapointed when I took it out of the box. The front sight and the rear sight did not line up. One was tapped too far to the left and the other was tapped too far to the right. After discovering how little care was taken on tapping the barrel for the sights, I was afraid to shoot the gun. The gun is very poorly built, and would not consider buying another CVA product in the future."

"Wonderful gun. Shoots great right out of the box. Once I figure the correct load out, it was shooting great groups at 100 yards. Mounted a nice scope, and what a gun. Can't wait until next season... Great deal also."

For Cessnafly,December 22, 2008
By Bennytwogunsfrom Minneapolis, MN
"Cessnafly, I own a CVA Optima Pro (.50 cal, open sights) and just took out the new Hornady FTB 350 grain and in -5 degree weather with a 25 mph crosswind shooting off only a bipod, printed 2 inch groups at 50 yards. I realize that's not a tackdriver but please take into account the conditions. Best load I've had shoot out of my Optima (was shooting 245 gr. aerotip Powerbelts). Hornady says it'll print 1 inch groups at 100 yards, which I believe. Plus the bullet is meant to be shot from a dirty bore, like a normal rifle, so there is much less inconsistency with the shoot, shoot, shoot, clean, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, clean, etc. etc. process. I fell in love yesterday basically."

GREAT GUN,December 8, 2008
By psportfrom dardanelle, ar
"Purchased the 50 cal gun in July 08. Got the complete package deal though. Shot many times to get used to it. Couldn't get sabots to pattern at all. Went to the Powerbelt and had great flight and great pattern. Gun still has to be cleaned after 7-8 shots though or it gets hard to load. Took 2 nice 8 pts with it the first week of the season. I would recommend this gun to anyone with the exception I would not get the package. Find a better scope on your own."

CVA OPTIMA,October 30, 2008
By cessnafly172from Springdale Arkansas
"I bought one last week for the Oklahoma Black Powder season as my Ruger M77 50cal failed me. I usually go with TC as I own 3 of them. 2 Renegades and one Hawkins all 50 cals. and don't use them any longer unless I need to. The CVA always has been one gun I thought was cheap and not dependable. Well I saw the Nickle Optima 50 Cal and liked the way it loaded (breach) and the looks. I took it hunting last week and shot 2 deer in Oklahoma and was impressed with the gun. The only thing I can say bad is that after shooting 4 or 5 rounds with 100 grains of Triple 7 the gun shot all over the place and needed cleaned. I was shooting a 300 grain Sabot. Does anyone recommend a good load for accuracy to 200 yds. Why does it want to shoot all over the place? Thanks for your help! Very nice gun and think I will enjoy it.I only think my TC RENEGADE with a round ball shoots more accurate."

CVA OPTIMA 209,October 8, 2008
By ranchahndfrom tHROCKMORTON, tX
"This was my first black powder 50 cal and it has been a blast. I mounted an Omega BDC and bore sighted it with a Cabales Laser bore sighter. It put me on the paper and I was on my zero within three shots. I'am shooting Powerbelt 245 gr copper series and 2 pellets of Triple 7. Got 1 inch groups, I'am thinking of going to three pellets and see what that produces. I would reccomend this weapon to anyone, easy to move around because it is short. If you have never had a black powder I recommend you get the Blackpowder 101 dvd."
