Image of Rocky Mountain Hawken

  • Beautiful maple stock with exacting details
  • .54 caliber, sidelock percussion
  • Double triggers with fancy trigger guard
  • 34" barrel with 1-in-65" twist
  • The Hawken is a symbol of the period that saw the passage from the long and heavy small caliber Pennsylvania rifles to more practical and powerful Plains rifles, and the definite abandoning of the flintlock for the far more modern percussion system. The strong barrel and the larger caliber, enabled hits on any target with surprising accuracy. This rifle soon became an invaluable friend of Mountain men, and the most famous explorers of the American continent. The Rocky Mountain Hawken is offered in a maple stock with a barrel having seven grooves obtained by broaching, rust brown color finish, steel metal parts. Barrel length 34". Available in .50 caliber and .54 caliber with twist rates of 1 in 48" on the .50 and 1 in 65" on the .54. Made for Cabela's by Davide Pedersoli.

Work of art, March 4, 2010
By kidmanderson from North Pole, AK

"This was my first muzzleloader purchase so I researched for quite some time before settling on the Maple .54. The price was considerably more than other production rifles I had looked at but it was absolutely worth the money. I could not have made a better choice. The maple stock is beautiful and well fitted to the metal. I really love the set trigger which works very well increases accuracy significantly. I can't wait to try this beauty out on a Yukon moose this fall!"

Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken, January 3, 2010
    By ClydeFrog from Dallas, TX

"All I can say is "wow!" This rifle is beautiful and functions flawlessly. I purchased the .54 caliber maple stock model from Cabela's back in June at an incredible sale price. I only recently put it to the test at the range and in the field during the 2009 Missouri muzzleloader season. It was a big hit at the range. I have found the following combination to be very effective for me: 90 gr Pyrodex RS, .010 patches lubed with TC Bore Butter, Hornady .535 lead balls. This combination helped to produce a well placed shot and a clean kill on a whitetail at 85 yds.

After an initial hot water cleansing to get the petroleum based lubricants out of the barrel, I have only used natural products in this rifle (TC Bore Butter and TC No. 13 Bore Cleaner). I use the Bore Butter on the patch for each shot and I use the No. 13 to clean the barrel at the end of the day. Then I swab the barrel with Bore Butter for rust protection and put it away. I have fired the rifle about 100 times and have not had to swab the bore at all between shots. This natural method of seasoning the barrel makes black power shooting so much easier and enjoyable.

Pedersoli Rocky Mt Hawken, July 16, 2009
    By lc1840

"I received my Hawken and was very impressed with it's appearance. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but am looking forward to it. My one complaint would be that it was advertised with a brown finish and it is more of a blue finish. But the workmanship is very good and the maple stock is awesome."

54 cal. Rocky Mt. Hawken, July 10, 2009
    By 50spencer from San Francisco,Ca.

"With the unavailability of reloading components in my neck of the woods, I thought a muzzleloader would keep me shooting. When I saw this rifle on sale at Cabela's with a great shipping promotion,it was too good to pass up. The gun arrived within a few days and I could not believe the beautiful tiger striped maple stock on a production firearm ! Fit and finish was perfect . First shooting impression,.530 ball,.015 patch,70g of 3f,one ragged hole."

Great bang for your buck, July 7, 2009
    By ArizonaRoadrunner from Arizona

"I had read many reviews about this particular Hawken rifle and all have given it high marks. Well, I can now add my recommendation as this is one of the best production Hawkens I have ever seen. Excellent wood to metal finishing and the quality of the maple is very good for the price. I shoot off-hand and the Rocky Mountain Hawken has great balance and I easily shot in the black. This is a wonderful addition to my Hawken collection."

Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken, July 1, 2009
    By Bobby80020 from Colorado

"The gun is solid just like I thought it would be. The workmanship is excellent. The wood is beautiful. Although the gun is not light it lines up nicely in a standing position. Accuracy was excellent with the factory iron sights. Hit the 10 ring the first shot out of the box."

    Outstanding Rifle!, June 23, 2009
    By BROOU from VA

"The fit and finish of this rifle is first rate! I have seen many factory muzzleloaders and this by far has the best fit and finish of any that I've seen. In fact, I believe it would rival many custom Hawkens. The inletting is virtually seamless. The color case hardening is beautiful and even, as is the browning of the barrel. This is the most authentic factory Hawken I've seen. I really look forward to shooting it."

Rocky Mountain Hawken (Maple) .54 Cal., June 23, 2009
    By ckv54 from Raleigh, NC

"Excellent fit and finish on all metal and wood. Maple stock was better than average quality, very beautifully done. Pedersoli makes a great product. Not only does the rifle look good but it performs well too. With the rear iron sight elevated to it's highest step, 90 grains of triple seven propellant and 425 grain cast minie bullet ( give or take a few grains) I can consistently knock down steel rams at 200 meters.
The rifle gets alot of attention at the range and really gets fellow shooters talking when they see how well it shoots.

Pedersoli .54 Rocky Mountain Hawken, June 17, 2009
    By TXnorton from Katy, Texas

"This is a beautiful rifle! The maple stock is magnificent. This rifle has been on my wish list for quite some time, and I am so very pleased with finally having it in my collection. This is my first BP muzzleloader (after my Cap and Ball pistol and BP cartridge guns). I really enjoy the muzzleloader experience and this is a great rifle to enjoy it with. The Pedersoli quality is very evident in all aspects of this rifle, and it is highy recommended!"

Rocky Mountain Hawken Maple, October 26, 2008
    By Anonymous from Rosenberg, Texas

"I just purchased the Rocky Mountain Hawken 54 caliber because I wanted a muzzle loader that sported a "maple" stock. Boy was I surprised! The fit and finish is supreme and very handsome. Can't wait to see what it'll do."

    TOP QUALITY, August 26, 2008
    By GUNNYCRAIG from Hampstead, MD

"This is my second traditional rifle and my first Pedersoli. Based on the accuracy, fit and finish, it probably will not be my last Pedersoli. I shot a fine 1.5 in., 5-shot group at 50 yards right out of the box (after a good cleaning) using 90 gr. of Goex, .010 patch and Hornady .535 round balls. I cleaned the rifle, seasoned the barrel and fired 5 more resulting in an even smaller group. All shots were taken sitting on the ground with my back to a tree. Not bad for 52 year-old eyes.

This rifle also has great eye appeal that any shooting perfectionist would appreciate. You definitly are getting your money's worth in accuracy and quality. Maryland's short October black powder season is coming soon, and this Big 54 will be with me.

Rocky Mtn Hawkin - Excellent Choice!, December 19, 2007
    By Spikebuck from Minnesota

"Beautiful workmanship. Excellent, smooth trigger pull, even without utilizing the set trigger. Super accurate...using 90 grains of American Pioneer powder, .530 roundball and .015 lubed patch, shot 4" groups at 50 yards out of the box...didn't even have to touch the sight! It's spendy...but worth it! Shot a whitetail buck at 78 yards dropping it in it's tracks using the above combo."
