Great sight, bad rebate,December 22, 2009

"Sight is 5 stars. EOTech rebate is zero stars. Six weeks after requesting the $50.00 rebate EOTech offered on the purchase of this sight, I received a rebate rejection notice. EOTech stated my Cabela's receipt did not constitute acceptable proof of purchase. They also stated the bar code copied from the EOTech box was not adequate enough to show the serial number of the product. Therefore, no rebate.
If you are considering an EOTech sight solely on this company's rebate offer, think twice. You may not get it."

"this sight is awesome, very high quality, holds its zero, very accurate. although it is also good for longer distances (hit 200 yards all day), this sight is ideal for close quarters combat. very fast target acquisition. one side note is i used this sight on a stag arms ar-15 flattop and the raised base only allowed the battery compartment to go over the delta ring, it would contact the actual handguard if i tried to move it foreward a few notches on the picitinny rail."

"It took about 30 minutes to get it sighted in well, but then it is dead on consistent. Light intensity adjustment is a nice feature, and the controls on the side are great also. Would highly recommend to anyone."

"I am new to the AR realm, but the 517 mounts easily on my new Ruger SR-556. While it doesn't seem sit exactly level on the rail, it's not noticeable unless you're looking for it, and it still sights in easily. The buttons on the side versus the rear is a great upgrade from the other EOTech models. Quick target acquisition and ease of operation make this a great product.
The hogs are starting to take over on my deer hunting property in GA. Obviously, they haven't heard that the Slamma has a new rifle topped with a EOTech 517. It's only a matter of time before the hogs start posting signs along their trails: "Fear the Black Mamba"."

"Makes zeroing quick and easy. Holds Zero well. Easy to adjust brightness. Seems very substantial. Good price. A great help if your eyes are not as good as they once were. (that would be me) Makes a day at the range even more fun with my Ar-15.

"Picked the 517 over the 512 because of the location of the control buttons. If you have BUIS on your AR you can't go wrong with this scope. Installed it last night and it zeroed with no problems. Great buy!"

"Finally got the chance to sight my new EOTECH 517 in on my Armalite M-15 5.56 and it was a breeze. Simple adjustments and only took 3, 3 shot groups @ 50 yds to get it zeroed in. Moved the target out to 100 yds and had no problem hitting the 6" shoot n see targets (which were way too small in my opinion for 100 yds) with no magnifier. It has tons of brightness settings for any lighting conditions and very quick target acquisition on follow up shots. Overall i was very impressed with it."

"I recently added this gem to my new AR-15 I got. It shoots great, with quick target acquisition. Holds zero very well, just make sure you have a sturdy mouth if you add it to an A2 upper. Mine tended to move a little bit. Only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is that I think a cover would have been nice to keep the dust off it when not in use."

"I have a 416 which is the nightvision capable version of EOTech that takes the CR123 lithium batteries. I have always like that the controls were on the side, so when I saw the 517 for sale at Cabelas I picked one up.
It is a fantastic EOTech and priced great for what you get. You lose the Nightvision capability, but unless you have nightvision goggles or a NV scope, it won't matter anyway. The side moutned controls are great and allow you to use a 3X flip to side magnifier and still be able to work the EOTech controls with ease.
Also, if you have a stock heatsheild on your AR-15, the front of this sight is cut out on the bottom so that it can sit overtop of your heatshield without coming in contact with the plastic. This is a huge advantage over the 512 Eotechs.
Great scope! Worth every penny!"

"These scopes are expensive but the minute you install it you know it is a quality product. Installation on my AR-15 was a cinch. The image is visible in every kind of light. Shooting with both eyes open is a real advantage for quick and easy target acquisition. It took me around a dozen rounds to zero it at 25 yards according to the instructions. Adjustments are very easy. I then shot 150 rounds with no gun rest for support - just standing up steady and practicing quick target acquisition with quick second shots. I was able to put most rounds within a 5 inch or so circle. At this point 100 yards is easy. Next time I will try 150 yards. The only negatives I can think of is that, for the price, it should come with a storage cover and also the instructions are for all of the scopes, you have to figure out what applies to this one (not a real big deal)."

"This is the best close quarter sight availiable. I do not suggest it for long range shooting. You can get on target very quick and both eyes open you miss nothing going on around you. A magnigfication is availiable and may make this an excellent long range sight but I do not have it to testify. I would buy this again."
