DT Systems SPT 2430 Dog Training Collar

In addition to nick, vibration and continuous settings, the 2430 has innovative jump and rise stimulation for greater training versatility. Jump feature allows you to instantly jump to a predetermined intensity level. Rise setting gradually increases stimulation level as you hold down the button until you find the appropriate level for your dog. Includes lightweight, waterproof collar and waterproof transmitter with backlit LCD. 1.3-mile range with antenna woven into collar. The 50 levels of stimulation intensity are adjustable from the transmitter. Adjustable for low-level positive stimulation and built-in safety shut-off system. Powered by rechargeable ni-mh batteries. The 2430 model is a beeper/training unit allowing you to control beeper modes and on/off function of beeper from your transmitter.

Not Exactly as I would Have Designed It, November 17, 2009

"I use my collar at least every weekend, for 8 months out of the year. My dogs are very aggressive in the field, and it takes a good collar to stand up to the use.

I have a two-dog unit. One of the things that bugs me is that I can't tell, by feel alone, what dog I am in control of. I have to look at the screen, and push the electronic button. Sometimes, in the heat of the battle, it takes two pushes of the button, as if you do not push it all the way, it doesn't switch dogs.

I have had to send my collar back to DT two times. Both times the same collar beeper quit working. They had to replace the belt part of the collar. Other functions continued to work, but the beeper was intermittent.

I just had the part of the collar come off that goes into the hole in the collar. The thin piece of metal that holds the collar on fell off. Why that would fail is beyond me. I temporarily fixed it with a bent nail.

The LCD screen gets scratched a bit too, making it hard to read.

I had an old Tri-tronics collar, LS200 that I had for 10+ years, never had an issue…"

"I was having problems with my 16 month old Spinone male. When he was on a leash, he performed very well, but off leash, I was better off walking into the house, because I had no control over him.

I conferred with a member of my local hunting dog chapter, since he had done research into several available manufactures and models. He recommended this collar.

In particular, I was interested in the vibration feature. I wanted to be able to remind the dog I was in control, without using any electrical stimulation. This is the only model I could find with this feature.

It took 4 days to transition the dog from the leash to the e-collar, and it been one of the greatest training tools I have purchased. I use the locate tone and vibration 95% of the time, but still have the option for a more forceful correction if the situation warrants it.

I don't see a need for 50 levels of stimulation, since I get a response from the dog on 6, the option is there for every hard-headed dogs.

I absolutely recommend this collar to everyone. While it is expensive, it is worth the money, especially if you don't want to have to shock the dog every time you need to correct."

"i bought this collar three years ago for my gordon setter. i recently purchased one for my sons english setter. the beeper part of the collar is must when hunting tall brush,cattails and the woodsand it works great. there are cheaper ones out there for less than 50 bucks than it costs to buy get this one, not worth it. i like the fact that i can just use vibrate on our dogs and that is usually all it takes to get them under control. when you do need something a little bit stronger it is there. the rise feature is helpful in finding what the dog will tolerate anf after that there is no need to go further. excellent collar and well worth the extra money."

"I love this collar i use it for my boxer and my drahthaar they love this collar i dont shock my dogs much but if i have to shock them it works great and the beeper is a must have to hunt tall cover i trained my boxer at a late age to retrieve so the beeper took her some time to get use to i trained my drahthaar from a pup i kept it about 20yards away on beep while he would eat and moved it closer intill it was beside him"

"This unit has some really nice features if you have two dogs that you hunt with. The vibrate feature makes it so I rarely ever have to shock my dogs. The tone features allow me to alway know where they are and if they are on point.

The button to switch between dogs is too small to press with gloves on whereas all of the other buttons are large and easy to use with gloves.

The button to switch between dogs stopped working soon into last hunting season. It took them 15 days in their shop to fix it. I almost did not buy this unit because I had a similar problem with a DT collar several years ago; that is something stopped working that shouldn't have and they took a long time to fix it. Then they charged me and I complained to Cabelas and the charge was refunded."

"After going through one full season with this collar, I am very impressed with the options and performance of the collar. Even though it is the most expensive collar, it is worth it. I used it for a 12 year old brittany and a 6 month brittany, and it performed excellently in both cases. The 12 year old brittany is nearly deaf and the vibration part of the collar and the beeper worked well for her. The 6 month old worked well with the collar. I never had to use the nick function with the older dog, and the only time I used it on the younger dog was to keep him out of the road or from pestering other dogs. My only complaint was that the beeper would get full of snow ( yes, it snows in Minnesota) and wouldn't work until I picked the snow out of it. I had other friends who had Dogtra collars and Tri-tronics collars who had the same problem with their collars. I like the clear window that shows which dog is being controlled with the collar. This is one excellent collar. I never ran out of power even if I used the collar three days in a row."

"This product has been a great tool in training my german shorhair. I really like the vibrate mode for positive re-enforcement. I have not been able to test the full range of the product but for my needs it has done great. It is nice to have a collar that has all the functions that this modle has. I would have to say at the end of the day that this collar is a great big bang for the bucks!!"

"Terrific product. The Jump and Rise feature fit my needs perfectly. The best thing about the collar is that it provides a wide variety of stimulation settings. I am a low stimulation trainer and this product provides it. Other collars just don't have settings that are low enough and are 'too hot' for my dogs. Great product. I highly recommend it."
