The GS-7000 is one of the most advanced in the Gun Dog line. It has a new ergonomic look and feel, not only in the transmitter, but in the receiver to make it more comfortable for your dog. The transmitter design has a nonslip rubber housing and backlit LCD with easy-to-find, yet protected buttons. The transmitter and receiver are both waterproof and made from heavy-duty materials. The Cabela's exclusive, patent-pending transmitter locator keeps you from losing your transmitter in the field. If the transmitter is still for more than 10 minutes, it produces a loud tone, allowing you to find it. Transmitter locator can be turned off. Advanced transmitting technology gives these units a one-mile range, despite obstacles and terrain, and resists most interference. Battery life will no longer be a mystery, or a problem, as both the transmitter and receiver have battery level indicators, and long-lasting lithium-ion batteries with super-fast charging times of less than two hours. Transmitter can be worn on a lanyard or included belt clip. Two-dog capable with the purchase of the Gun Dog Extra Collar. Engineered to endure the harshest conditions. Programmable instant boost button increases level instantly for avoiding potentially dangerous situations, or discouraging bad habits. 20 levels of continuous and momentary stimulation, plus tone. Two-year warranty. Batteries included.

GS-7000,December 17, 2008
By bdvabchfrom Kingsville, TX
"Great product. Easy to use. Turning on and off the reciever was no problem as some reviews indicated. Only downside is the reciever started to malfunction after only two weeks of use. Inotek is sending me a replacement at no cost. Overall, very happy with the product and I even bought a second reciever for my other dog. Hopefully the malfunctioning reciever was a anomaly."

Even works on a cowdog!,June 2, 2008
By lpranchfrom Winifred, MT
"We used this collar on our young cowdog. He seemed really stubborn and wasn't really responding to voice signals. When we put on the collar he started to respond immediately. He went from being a headache to an asset on the team in a matter of a week!
The collar and remote both work well and we haven't had any problems with them. We have been using them almost daily for a couple of weeks and have only had to recharge the collar once. After reading some of the review I thought we might have some complications with the recharging and keeping the antenna away from the collar, but it really doesn't take a brain surgeon to keep it safe.
I really like the tone feature because we started with the shock and tone and now often just a tone will get the desired response.
I would say though that it took us a long time to find out how to turn the remote off since there are no off buttons on the remote. I looked through the manual for a very long time before I found out that you just do not press any buttons for 30 minutes and it turns itself off. I think that it would be nice to have an off button but have found that it doesn't really waste the battery or interfere with its use in any way.
I give the training system a thumbs up and would definitely recommend this particular collar to anyone with a dog that needs a little (or a lot of) correction."

gun dog gs-7000 collar,January 28, 2008
By kylakeriderfrom Illinois
"Awesome. I have two dogs and use it in two dog mode. easy to use, great battery life, range good for me but don't know limit of range. works easily for 1/4 mile probably much more. the only minor complaint is the positioning of the handheld antenna has to be just right to turn on / off the collar, but it clearly can't be inadvertantly turned on/off. minor inconvenience when weighesl against all the plusses is no prob"

works good when it works,December 27, 2007
By jeffriesfrom Seattle, Washington
"I have had this collar about a year now. I am on my third receiver and second transmitter. Warranty has been good to me to date. Other than the durability issue, I have two mild complaints. 1) The belt clip fell apart within a week. 2) The receiver times out after a couple of hours, then shuts off. If your dog is good for too long, when you need it it's off. I would prefer it to stay on until you turn it off or the battery is dead. Overall if they corrected the reliability issues, this would be a great unit."

"I have used my GS 7000 four times and now am on my second receiver that won't work. The belt clip also broke the first time it was used.I have two dogs and recommend that if you buy one of these, buy one extra receiver so you will be able to hunt while one gets exchanged.Being a long time customer of Cabela's this is the only product I have not been pleased with."

Cabela's GS7000 Gun Dog Training Collar,August 19, 2007
By GGwithaLabfrom Lansing, MI
"I owned an inexpensive yard trainer collar which I liked but had some shortcomings in the field, which helped me compile a list of features that I wanted for my next field collar: Long range preferably 1 mile, waterproof and rechargeable transmitter and receiver, tone only stimulus, ergonomic collar design that wraps around the receiver to prevent receiver ripoff in heavy brush, multiple levels of stimulation, textured buttons that can be selected easily by feel. Cabela's GS7000 is the lowest priced unit I've found that has these features... and more. 2 dog capability. 20 levels of stimulation starting at an imperceptible level allow you to find the minimum level of stimulation needed to distract your dog from undesired behavior. Nick, continuous, boost, and tone only buttons. The nick/continuous buttons and boost buttons can be programmed for the levels that work for your dog. (Level 4 is the perfect training level for my black lab and Level 6 has brought her under control while in full pursuit of a duck just off the end of her nose. I've NEVER had to use more than level 6!) Initially I would have preferred a collar with a plastic snap fastener however with use I've found the buckle collar to be a better choice. I have not tested the range however I have not had an incident where the collar failed due to distance. Drawbacks/observations: My collar worked as advertised out of the box - but the very next day the collar failed to turn on. Innotek ended up replacing the collar. On rare occasions I've had the collar shut itself off while in the field. The magnetic collar charger has to be kept away from the transmitter else the transmitter range could be affected - a goofy design if you ask me. At least include a degauss tool for dealing with accidents! The transmitter is comfortable to use but bulky, size being a necessary tradeoff for greater power required to achieve a 1 mile range. The Tone Only button is a little small for my fingers. The manual erroneously refers to a training DVD that is not included with the Cabela's collar. (Upon request Innotek nicely send the DVD when they sent me the replacement collar) For features and useability, especially for the price, I'd rate this a 5. An equivalent Tri-Tronics can be nearly $100 more in cost. After my initial collar failure had been resolved the product has worked great. I must adjust this rating - and send a thump on the head - for the reliability issues with this and other Innotek products I've had experience with. Fortunately you have both Cabela's satisfaction guarantee and Innotek's warranty to draw on if your product should fail. I've had some initial frustrations however after the dust settled I've always ended up with an Innotek dog training product that I'd liked, and I can include the Cabela's GS7000 Dog Gun Collar in that list."

2 stars is being generous,August 13, 2007
By Edward89from CA
"I odered the GS7000 and also and extra collar. Without any indication the extra collar came in bright orange rather than black as pictured, not good camo. Both collars worked at the start. The warning tone is too quiet, and the first 8 stimulation levels are too low for either the 80 lb or 20 lb dog to react to. After about 2 weeks one callar stopped taking a charge. I returned it and am now waiting 3+ weeks for the backordered replacement to arrive. My biggest gripe though is the design of the charging unit. It uses a magnet to keep the collar in place during charging. It also warns to keep the transmitter away from the magnet or it will no longer work. The collar and transmitter charge on the same line about 8 inches apart. Who decided this was a good design idea? A clip of any sort would have accomplished the same goal, why have a magnet that will render the unit useless? It also warns to keep the top of the collar away from the magent, but you have to attach the magnet to the bottom of the collar for charging. It sounds like a simple thing to deal with, but the concern of ruining your $400 system by accidentally getting it's own parts too close together gets really annoying really fast. Reading through the reviews it seems about half the people have problems with the collar, I guess since I got 2 I'm running par for the course. To top everything off the warranty is only 30 days."

"We purchased a 7000 about two months ago for our lab and the collar did not work so we contacted innotek. They sent us a complete new set up and told us to use what we needed to make it work and send back the rest and defective parts. We have used this collar about 6 times and here we go again. Another one is being shipped out today. (I just want something that works) This is not my first dog collar. The old one still works after three years. But its not this brand. So if you want to ship collars back and forth with innotek buy one of these collars. I KNOW I WONT DO THAT AGAIN."

Promise Fulfilled,July 17, 2007
By PatchesPopfrom MA
"Finally, a training collar that does what they all promise in the large print but qualify in the fine print. This one works up hill and down dale, through thick and thin (brush) to a very respectable range.
We haven't checked the maximun range but know it is greater than other units we have owned.
The collar is compact and light-weight. We found the stiff black plastic collar was impossible to mark for the correct hole so we replaced it with a make-your-own collar with a plastic snap fastner from the hardware store. It stays adjusted to the correct length and is much easier to put on and take off.
The control fits the hand nicely. The order of the buttons takes a little getting used to, but then they make sense.
We like the lanyard connecting to the bottom of the control – much less likely to get the antenna in your face when taking the control off. Even better, we use the excellent belt clip.
We were somewhat apprehensive when we saw the familiar warning that range might be reduced by contour and vegitation in the instructions, but that seems to be left-over from previous models. The GS-7000 really lives up to its promotion."

Not As Expected,June 1, 2007
By KEN15522from Bedford, PA
"Got the unit ordered for 2nd or 3rd day delivery. (Business days) I unpackaged the unit and charged per instructions, A few hours later the unit was charged and ready for use. I get out the instructions and the collar won't power up. I called innotek and got some help, a woman said she would send me a unit out right away after she charges the tranmiter. Got it yesterday (Transmiter only)and still the unit don't work. I'm positive the collar is bad ( receiver ) I called innotek again today to get a Receiver and I'm told it is on the way next day but it could take 7 to 14 days . Not worth the shipping cost or disapointment. My next move is to return it to Cabelas although it says not to in the box.."

e-collar,May 9, 2007
By cshfdfrom Greencastle, PA
"The buttons are large and easly distinguished for the different functions. The LCD display screen makes it very easy to tell the level of the stimulation. The only drawback is the charging system. It uses a magnet to hold the collar to the charger. The problem is if the magnet comes in contact with the transmitter it short circuits the range making it only good for a yard trainer and not for large running dogs."

"We have a young yellow lab who was totally out of control until we put this collar on our dog. In a very short time without abuse we were able to teach this dog limits and boundaries. She is much more of a people friendly dog now, able to run our few acres which are full of doggie delights and we have the much better behaved (but still with tons of spirit and personality) dog that we wished."

Cheap junk ruins the product,April 29, 2007
By NEHunterfrom CT
"I bought this collar about a month ago. It works as advertised but has problems with the simplest things. Twice I have almost lost the transmitter unit. The unit, as delivered, can be held by a clip or lanyard. The screw connecting the clip to the unit worked loose and was lost. A few weeks later, the lanyard clip failed to work. Had I not noticed I could have easily lost the unit. I have since fixed both with better quality attachments. Given these were easy to do and cheap I don't understand why they were done right the first time.,"

Misses the mark,December 27, 2006
By CObrdhntr
"I was excited about this collar and extremely disappointed when I received it. The transmitter locator is almost useless. The volume of the beeper was about as loud as an alarm on a digital watch. Virtually impossible to hear out in the field with the wind blowing, dogs panting, hunting partners talking, etc. I set it down about 40 feet away in a very quiet setting and could barely hear it when I was listening for it. I can also walk a long ways in ten minutes so it would be helpful to be able to set it to sound a louder alarm sooner. It is also too easy to accidentally turn off the alarm. There aren't 20 levels of stimulation as the first 4-5 levels are non-existent. There are also too many buttons that can't be locked out. I like to use my transmitter without looking at it and it couldn't be done consistently with this unit. It is also too hard to tell if the collar is turned on because the smallest LED possible was used as an indicator light. Not recommended. Cabela's sells much better collars."
