"The cable does what it's supposed to do. However, there's nothing you can do with this cable that you can't do using the MMC slot on the unit (785c2): way points, tracks, software upgrades. Again, it does what it's supposed to do that's why it gets the 5 stars. It may provide more functionality when used with a different unit. Check your manual and see what you cab/can't do with it."

"There is not much to say about this item. You can update the firmware for the depthfinder unit and it's quite easy to use. On the other hand, I would have thought that the software would be more recent, it looks like a software for windows 3.11 ..."

"The Humminbird PC Connection cable does exactly what they say it does - and no more. What it doesn't do is what the product descriptions insinuate that it does. If you think this will allow you to run emulation software like Humminbird's key sonar/gps competitors - the software does not exist. Humminbird PC Connect will not allow you to view purchased cartography or even the purchased unit's base map on your computer monitor - and without these maps how are you supposed to manage routes and waypoints - which is what it is advertised to do. You really can't. All the software will show you is a grid - no features, outlines, nothing - just a grid. Oh, the grid may have your waypoints, or your route, but there's no map to reference it to. So what can you actually do with the cable set - download updates. That's it...
Without this cabling you could easily do the update downloading with a blank SD card and a digital camera as a card reader, which most people will already have in their home. You can upload the updates from the SD card with the unit connected to boat power.
When Humminbird PC Connect becomes real emulation software, the cable will be a bargain and a useful tool."

Being Able to Customize my Humminbird is Great!,November 26, 2006

"Being a bit of a tech savy person, I enjoy being able to customize my Humminbird by using the PC Conneciton Cable. The personalized startup screen always gets my buddies attention. Further the ability to download routes and waypoints and create custome names for fishing holes is great when fishing for sturgeon. The only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars is the fact that it is not yet available with a USB connector."

"Has good instructions and is easy to use. Be aware that you will need a converter cable to change from Serial plug to USB. Most new computers do not have a serial port plug in."
