Exceeds Expectations,November 20, 2009
By KilledEmfrom Murfreesboro, TN
"I have hunted for 35 years and have never hunted with a muzzleloader. I didnt have the money to purchase a top of the line gun, so I settled for this one. Wow!!!! What a steal! I added a 3x9 50 Simmons Blazer scope. It zeroed in in 2 shots at 50 yards. I have made 2 kills, one at 40yards and another at 85. Dead on each shot. It is light, no recoil, easy to load, easy to clean, I am using Thompson/Center Shock Wave Sabotts, 250 GR, Hodgdon Pyrodoex pellets 2x 50 GR, and Remington Kleanbore primers. I am sad the Muzzleloader season has to come to an end. Thanks CVA for a great Season!!"

CVA Wolf Mangum Rifle with Starter Kit - Blued/Bla,April 15, 2009
By r527from California
"Except, for the ram rod, which is cheap and not long enough unless you add the breech plug wrench extension , I LIKE this rifle! If you do not already have the extra accessories you cannot beat the price of this kit. Unfortunately, my rifle shoots 2" to the right at 50 yards with the sight adjusted as far as possible to the left. The fiber optic sights are very bright and the rifle is easy to clean. Bear in mind that the barrel is made by Dikar, not Bergara so stay within the powder charge limits. I use loose powder instead of pellets as the pellets are way too expensive on a per shot basis. Initially, I am shooting Hornady XTP .452/250 grain bullets with a sabot and 75 grains of Triple 7 with a Winchester 209 primer. So far, I am pleased with the results. More testing is required to find the right combination and a scope would be needed in my opinion for any shots beyond 75 yards. Only improvements I would suggest are: 1. improve the quality of the ram rod 2. use a Bergara barrel and 3. front & rear sights should be made of aluminum (not plastic)."

CVA Wolf Muzzleloader,January 20, 2009
By Pikenatorfrom Walker, MN
"I purchased this rifle with a starter kit prior to our trip to Iowa for Christmas. It is a very basic but simple to use rifle that proved to be very accurate. I purchased a scope for the rifle and after a few rounds, I had it zeroed in for 100 yards using 2 Pyrodex 50 grain pellets and a 300 grain Power Belt. I managed to harvest a doe at 103 yards with one shot and fill my Iowa tag.
The rifle is extremely easy to clean with its breakdown action. It has a short barrel, 24", but this makes it easy to get around with in heavier cover. I am extremely pleased with this rifle and look forward to future hunts here in MN."

Great weapon for the money,January 9, 2009
By fillinthefreezerfrom S.E. Texas
"Purchased the weapon at Christmas. Just now took it to the range for sighting it in. Took most of the rounds that came with the combo to get it sighted in. I mark that up to 15-20 mph winds, and human error. I couldn't be more pleased with the purchase, great weapon, great price, and great quality. I highly recommend this combo for first timmers getting into this type of shooting."

"Very well balanced. Comfortable to hold offhand and the breach break action makes it very nice to insert or remove the 209 cap. I dont have to fumble with trying to use my fingernail or the caap removal tool to remove it. Thanks Cabelas and Cva for making such a user friendly muzzleloader"

125 Yards, Though The Boiler Room,April 13, 2008
By fiiidakfrom North Dakota
"I bought my "Wolf" last fall, with the idea of filling my last remaining tag after rifle season. Brought it to the hunting shack. Fired it at a target, once, hit 1.5" high at 100 yards. OK. Next morning, small herd grazing in a harvested corn field, along a shelter belt. Put the beed right on his front shoulders, after rangeing him at 125 yards. BOOM! Dropped him in his tracks. I've fired this gun twice now,I wish I had another tag."

CVA Wolf Magnum,April 1, 2008
By Lola451from West Hempstead, NY
"I've had one problem with this firearm. The hammer wouldn't stay in the cocked position. I was advised by CVA that in this case I needed to apply pressure to the break-open lever when cocking. It worked. In fact after firing the rifle at the range I found that the hammer is now in perfect working order. I imagine that the gun had to loosen up and break in a bit. In any case, I was able to place a five shot, 4 inch grouping slightly above the bullseye at 25 yards. The rear sight will be adjusted to compensate.
Overall, I would recommend this firearm to anyone who is just starting out in muzzleloading as it is economical, light weight and fun to shoot."

"I recieved my gun as a gift from my wife for Christmas. When I opened my box I descovered the gun was rusted where the barrel breaks open.I was worried about the quality of craftmanship, but when Itook it to the range I was really impressed. It shot one inch groups 100yards.Pretty impressive for a cheap gun."

My First Blackpowder Rifle,February 8, 2008
By Rogmanfrom North Platte, NE
"I was invited on a blackpowder rifle hunt last December in Northern Nebraska. Having never fired a blackpowder rifle before I did some research online to explore my options as far as quality, ease of use, and value/price. After doing a lot of looking I finally decided to purchase the 209 Wolf from CVA, along with the optional starter kit. The only other items I needed were powder (pellets), and a sling. The 209 Wolf proved to be a super easy rifle to load and came out of the box without needing a great deal of sighting in. On the second day of my hunt I bagged a very nice mule deer that green scored over 150 B&C points from a distance of approximately 60 yards. The 250 grain shockwave bullet that came with the starter kit along with two 50 grain Pyrodex pellets did the job. After the hunt I found the 209 Wolf easy to clean which was a definite bonus. The starter kit included some good cleaning items. I don't see how anyone could go wrong with the CVA Wolf if they are looking for a good blackpowder rifle that is super affordable."

CVA Wolf 50 cal.,January 29, 2008
By LB11from Northern Indiana
"I read most of the reviews listed for this gun before I bought it. The only concern I had going in was the often mentioned "weak ramrod". I could see that maybe if you use sabots and don't clean the weapon as instructed there might be a problem with loading. I use the Powerbelt 245 gr with the ballistic tip, 100 grains of Pyrodex pellets and the Winchester 777 primers. I fired a total of 14 rounds without cleaning the gun and was still able to load it without a problem, grouping at 2.5" at 150 yds. All I can say is WOW! For less than $150.00 you get a rifle that will shoot ACCURATELY and reliably out to 200 yds."

Wolf Muzzleloader,November 5, 2007
By daveh9from Hudson, Fl
"The rifle had 2 fairly significant scratches on the barrel when I took it out of the box. It was the day before muzzleloading season so I was not about to return it. After hunting for 2 days, when cleaning the rifle I discovered the front sight had fallen off. I don't believe I abused the weapon in any way and called CVA to complain. Ultimately, I bought a new front sight from them and have installed same.
