"I bought this unit for christmas for a stubborn 8 month old husky, the first unit arrived and after reading the directions, watching the DVD and charging the unit for the 1st 24 hour charge I realized the collar battery was dead and couldn't hold a charge, cabella's sent out a second and after charging it seems to work well, the people at sportdog said that the batteries in the collar and receiver would increase in output time after several charges, so far so good with the second, it seems to last quite long. As far as the usefulness of the unit, it seems really good and my husky after training with + reinforcement is learning really fast and sometimes even listens to commands now with just the tone even if the unit is not on her. I hope the return process goes well and the unit and batteries last for as stated 3-5 years before new batteries are needed, which you have to buy through sportdog"

"My pup is 16 weeks old, and is a Razor and Argentine Dogo Mix. My other dog is Heeler, and she rules the roost. We want a well mannered and polite dog when he gets older, and felt maybe this would lead to the results we were after. I will say, we did not put the collar on him for over 5 weeks, following the instructions to the letter. At 12 weeks, "Jack" follows chain commands, Heels, sits, stays on a lead collar, with the lead on the ground, and with no lead, all with out using the collar outside of him wearing it. He is eager to please, loves the collar and hates to have it off. Now at 16 weeks, he roams our property, my wife pushes the sound alert only, and he comes immediately. I read reviews prior to ordering this unit, and was concerned about the range. "Jack roams one and a half acres, and so far I have had no problems. I am very impressed with the instructors on the CD, and doing everything they taught, we have maybe nicked "Jack" three times. I would recommend this to anyone who is willing to follow the training program. You will love the way your dog responds. The program trained me to be a patient and successful trainer of my dog."

"Easy to use and be careful, lowest setting gets the dogs attention. Do not over use as your dog can get frustrated. It has really helped with my Cocker Spaniel who likes to take off after a rabbit and not come back. The collar get his attention over 100yds away and he knows that I have corrected him. The collar does not hurt the dog, just lets him know he has to respond to me."

"IT IS TERRIBLE. I HAVE OWNED ONE OTHER COLLAR THAT LASTED ME 7 OR 8 YEARS FROM THE SAME COMPANY. THIS ONE HAS ABOUT A 15 FEET RANGE, BUT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE 1/4 MILE RANGE. IT IS A JOKE, AND I WILL SEND IT BACK TO CABEL'S DUE TO THE LACK OF QUALITY. EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE ABOUT COST NOT QUALITY, AND THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE. BUYER BEWARE."

"I bought this collar for my 2 dogs, a Springer and Lab, 2 years ago. Overall I'm very happy with it. It does what I need it to do. I use my dogs for pheasant hunting and the range on it is more than enough. I've never had them get out of range of the collar yet but they never get more than 100 yards out from me. They can swim with the collar on and not have any problem. The first controller that came with the collars died in the first month. It wouldn't hold a charge when the temperature dropped below 40 degrees and died within 1/2 an hour after I took it off the charger. I called Sportdog and had a replacement, at no charge, in 2 days. I've never had a problem with the new controller that they sent me. The other problem I had was that the contact points on one of the collars broke. Again I called Sportdog and they sent me 2 sets of replacement points, since I had bought 2 collars from them, in 2 days. They have great customer service. I'm happy with this collar and I give it 4 stars because I've never used any other collar so I don't know if there is anything better out there. I see a lot of people complaining about the range but mine works fine out to 100 yards. I've never had to use it at a greater distance so if you're working with flushing dogs this collar should work great for you."

"Very dissapointed by the range that this collar has - I cannot get it to work past about 60 yards or so. It works fine as long as he is very close but it does not reach out anywhere near the 400 yards as advertised. The transmitter should also have a clip on it so that you can attach it to your vest. I always borrow my buddies dogtra when I hunt with him and going to purchase one of my own in the near future. It is almost 2x the price but it works."

"The first time I tried to use collar, the distance was only about 75 yrds, with no response from dog. Tested again at a distance (wide open distance) of about 100 yrds, again with no luck. Found the max. operating distance to be about 50yrds. Unit is suppposed to work at 400 yrds. I am sending back and ordering another brand, hoping to have better luck."
