"Overall I give this gun boot a thumbs down. The plastic is thinner than anticipated. It doesn't stay closed well because it only has a latch on one side. It should have been made with two mounting locations instead of one. The mounting mechanism should be made of all steel instead of plastic and steal. And, the lining doesn't stay in place either."

"This is not what I thought I was getting. First off the thing comes with at least 35 bolts and screws and the instructions only covers where 4 of them go. The rest is guess work. also the locking pin on the frame mount is to short every time I go through the woods on my ATV the pin viberates out. On one trip it came out while I was moving and my rifle and case came loose and hit the ground. The old mounting system is much better."

"I recently purchased the Kolpin 5.0. I liked the streamline design and mounting the product onto my quad was quick and easy. However, those are the only good things I have to say about this product. The gun boot rattled so much I was not only extremely disapointed but refused to put my rifle in it. I drove about 100 yards down a rough road inroute to my hunting grounds and promptly removed the gun from the boot. I have no doubt in my mind that the poor craftmanship of this product would quickly alter the zero of a highly accurate rifle. I would advise all prospective shoppers to look elsewhere when it comes time to purchase a gun boot."

"Used the Gun Boot 5.0 on the 2008 PA deer season. First thing that I noticed was all the rattling around. The rider behind me commented on all the shaking the unit was doing on my quad. I noticed the same. By the end of the week I ended up mounting a Moose rifle rack to the front. The Gun Boot was a big disapointment."

"This gun boot mounted quickly and easily and seems to be able to handle the perils of deep brush. I really feel that my gun is protected when it's in there, and the price was an added bonus. Great deal at a great price."

"When I bought this gun boot I was excited to not have to carry my gun on my back. Now I carry my gun on my back. The boot itself came with this cheesy pad that stuck to the plastic boot with sticky-backed velcro. Come on guys, this stuff does not stay! Every time I pull my gun out it pulls out the liner. I guess the only way to make it work is to glue the thing in. The boot itself has taken lots of abuse and is very durable.
The mount was cheesy also. On rough rides I have to tighten the adjustment knob every 3-5 minutes because it vibrates loose. This causes the whole boot to wobble all over the place. You might want to put a little threadlock on it to keep it from backing out.
Like I said, the boot itself is tough. I have ridden through a lot of thick alders and smacked it on a few spruce trees and it has protected my gun well. I think another mounting system would be a lot better though. My brother and father have the 6.0 and it seems to have a better mounting system."

Good scabbard - bad base,

"I have this scabbard on my ATV and my sons. The scabbard is great protection. The base does provide easy on & off attachment, but the base is NOT well designed. We have broken 2 bases while riding on moderately rough roads. The weight of the scabbard & rifle torque on the base and brake them. I would buy Kolpin case, but another model."

"Its a nice case. Down side is its plastic attachment to metal bracket. I had to put a metal plate on outside to keep the guts from coming out. It got real sloppy after little use. I do ride harder then the average person."

"I received my Koplin 5.0 gun boot and installed it on my new Kawasaki Praire 360 4X4. It was very easy to install and looks great on my ATV. The direction were a little vague on how to install the cotter pin. Still it was very simple. I will purchase another one when I buy a new ATV. Thanks Koplin."

"Overall I like the gun boot. I had to modify the mounting U bolts but it's sturdy now (agree that the instructions were not well written). The locking pin makes a rattle as it shakes around on the trail. I also found that the material liner velcro strips came loose on the dusty trail."
