Image of Cabelas Deluxe XPG™ Tent

  • Rated 1,500mm-coated floor and fly
  • Featherlite DAC 7001, T6 aluminum poles
  • YKK® zippers
  • If you don't agree the XPG has the frame strength, quality construction and high-tech features of tents costing much more, send it back and we'll refund your money. Our product specialists tested and eliminated countless fabrics, poles and tent designs and spent many hours talking to backcountry experts before settling on the final version of the XPG. The end result was a tent that is rugged, lightweight and worthy of the Xtreme Performance Gear name. DAC featherweight, ferruleless, anodized-aluminum poles break down shorter than standard poles and are up to 30% lighter. This year, we added more mesh to the high-strength 70-denier, 190T rip-stop nylon taffeta fabric tent body for increased comfort. The fly incorporates two roomy vestibules and is constructed of UV-resistant rip- stop polyester with a 1,500mm-rated waterproof coating for extreme weather protection. And we redesigned it this year with a clear window for visibility and an array of ventilation options. Fly's dual zippers have no-snag zip cording and can be opened and closed in both directions for incredible convenience. Quick-release clips at the vestibules also make it easier to get in and out and ventilate. There are also shrouded mesh vents in the roof of the fly to control air flow. Inside, we added a gear loft and an organizer panel to stow your equipment and personals. Reflective guy lines prevent tripping and make the tent extremely visible at night with only a slight amount of illumination. Color-coded clips, buckles and fasteners, and reflective pole clips make this one of our easiest tents to set up, even in extremely low light. Tub-shaped floor for maximum protection from the elements. Lightweight, extruded 7075 T6 aluminum stakes included. Heavy- duty YKK® zippers.

    XPG:Commendable & kid-proof-sturdy, September 1, 2008
    By ndamsc from NW Idaho

"The other reviews are accurate. I wasn't crazy about the color of the fly, but realized it blends into the scenery so much better than the contrasting/ eyesore yellows, reds and whites of other tents when actually out in the wild.
A note on sturdiness: I set it up- quick and intuitive- in my living room for my boys (2, 3 & 7 yrs old) to sleep in. I got extremely busy and didn't take it down for 3 days, in which they continued to run, play and sleep in it. I came home to find my two youngest boys repeatedly running from across the room and jumping into the side of the tent. After counting to ten and a thorough inspection for damage I found only 2 slightly bent poles, which straightened quite easily. If the tent can take that kind of abuse with zero injury, it should be able to handle anything else I would dish out on it!
It worked great on a 3-day scout trip in 100 degree weather. I love the venting and zero condensation. I'd like 6 more inches in the vestibules, but with 1 of them on each side maybe I'm just acting spoiled. Great stakes. We love having 2 doors and the clips on the rain fly. My go-to tent from now on (I have 5).

    First Tent, October 9, 2009
    By Carp295 from Troy, Illinois

"I did a fair amount of research before i pulled the trigger on this tent. Man, did I buy a winner! This tent is a piece of cake to set up solo, even in the dark. The reflective tabs and color coded clips make it idiot proof. There are plenty of tie downs to keep the tent secure even in the heaviest storms. The double foyer's leave plenty of room inside for campers. I purchased the 4 man even though i mostly use it solo, it could sleep 3 adults if packs are stored in foyers. PLENTY of ventilation, the gear loft is very useful for things that may need to be found in the dark. Zippers are flawless, both on the tent and on the fly. I cannot say enough good things about this tent. I am thinking about buying the backpack version of the same tent, preping for a Boundry Waters trip this summer. Excellent ventilation in warm weather, buttons up nicely for colder temps. I have recommended this tent to all my camping buddies and my son's scout troop. Thanks Cabela's for the premium products at affordable "working man's" prices."

Great Screen Tent, September 14, 2009
    By HappyCamper3 from Chicagoland, Illinois

"I have been using this tent all summer and have been trying to decide if this is the best tent I have ever used. I love the lightness of it, the easy set-up with clips and poles, the windows in the fly are particularly sweet at night to see the stars or in the morning to judge the light outside. I have the 4man for one person and love the size. I can get a cot in it or an aerobed airmat plus my stuff and a little chair if I want. This past weekend I used it on a camping trip and in the afternoon I was sitting outside reading and it started getting buggy. I was in envy of people with the big screen tents and then realized that I had a little screen tent in my XPG. A serious amount of the tent surface is screen. I jumped up and unclipped the fly and threw it back off the tent to reveal my very sweet little screen tent! I had a short little beach chair in there and climbed in to sit and read for a while away from the bugs. It was perfect. The trade off in not being able to stand up in it, is that it is light to carry and easy to setup for one person which was my goal. Head room is sufficient. There is a full door on either side which is wonderful. If two people were sleeping in it, that would be a great feature for moving around. The vestibule on the fly is the only thing that is lacking for my needs, but it is what it is because of the kind of tent it is. A bigger vestibule would add more weight. I stake every stake-point the tent has, especially the one in front of the doors or it would be very difficult to unzip the door and a heavy duty stake for the vestibule points at the zippers to hold it tight to go in and out. Has also been very dry and comfortable in the rain. Very sweet little tent. I would absolutely recommend it."

    XPG4 Tent, September 14, 2009
    By JR2 from New Hampshire

"I just got back from camping in Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks with this tent and it was a perfect choice for two people. Sets up in minutes and didn't leak a drop when it rained even though I didn't get around to sealing the seams yet. Also was light enough to carry on the plane in a carry on bag. I just had to put the poles and stakes in the luggage for security rules. This four man tent is ideal for two people."

    Good tent, September 10, 2009
    By GBA from Michigan

"I bought this particular tent based on reviews here, this had the fewest (major) complaints of all the tents. Overall, I'm pleased. As everyone says, this tent stays dry inside. I would recommend the 4 person tent for 2 or 3 people and buying 2 4-person tents if you have more than 3 people camping with you. It is easy and fast to put up even with 1 person doing it and I think you could easily put it up after dark with a single flashlight. I like the white of the tent- it is easy to spot mosquitoes in the tent. There are 2 zippered slots in the top that work to shoo them out. The pockets inside are great to keep from breaking your glasses. The main downside is that the mesh on the sides can't be closed up for warmth, so instead of classifying this as a 3 season tent, I would say it's just a warm season tent. If it gets chilly at night where or when you camp, get a 4 season tent instead. Also, I bought 8x10 6 oz per sq/yd poly tarp for the 4 person tent's footprint and a 6x8 poly 2.5 oz per sq/yd for an inside liner and also a duffle bag 50% larger than the original storage duffle, so I don't have to compress the tent as small, saving packing time, and it also has room for the tarps and mallot in the duffle as well. As someone mentioned, the zipper can get caught in the fly's flap."

    Great Tent, September 9, 2009
    By Porto from Clarkston, WA

"We just purchased this tent and took it on its first 4 day rafting trip. Size and weight were the major consideration, but after using the tent in a windstorm, we are very happy with the performance. The tent didn't even sway and the wind was truly howling. We typically spend several weeks on the river a year and will finally retire our 25 year old Eureka tent in favor of the XPG. The aluminum poles are great."

stands up to the elements, September 8, 2009
    By vaporingpuppy from detroit, michigan

"this tent is simply amazing!!! This tent is classified as a three season tent, but i beg to differ. It has endured 90 degree heat in the middle of summer and with the mesh dome it kept a nice breeze flowing through. early the next year i took it hunting in the u.p of michigan. the temp that week never reached above 15 F. the rain fly was thick enough to hold in warmth and the structure strong enough to hold about six inches of snow. the interior of the tent stayed dry all week. I am a avid backcountry hiker and this tent can handle anything nature will throw at it. the tent itself and poles are super ight to carry and can be packed down to be the size of a long coffee can. the rain-fly on the other hand is the bulky and accounts for about 70% of the totall weight but is a must if u plan on doing some real hiking. Very spacious and plenty of room inside for you and your gear."

Great for the price, August 25, 2009
By wcmik from Los Angeles, CA

"Great overall tent. The see through mesh feature is perfect for those mild, starry nights. VERY easy to set up and the interior pockets are very convenient. Fits two large adults easily. The only drawback is the weight - but maybe that's the price you pay for the increase in size."

For use in the wilderness, August 4, 2009
    By cm67

"We used 4 of these tents for a 8 man wilderness trip in the Sylvania wilderness and they worked great. Unfurtunately we had rain most of the time but the tents performed great and we stayed dry. There is plenty of room for 2 men and equipment inside the tents. The only negative feature is that the fly could have had more space under it to be able to store gear or to close the fly before opening the tent. If the fly were larger I would have given 5 stars."

Great Tent Great Price, August 2, 2009
    By Pronghorn09 from Lincoln Nebraska

"I picked up this tent recently during a Cabela's in store sale. With the 4 person model, three people(not little avg 200 lbs) and a dog fit just about right along with some stuff. Vents worked awesome and could have been closed quickly if needed from the inside. Well wouldn't you know it we setup the tent and eat dinner and then a squall blows through. 30-35mph gusts, decently heavy rain. We sat cool as cucumbers inside. No problems."

Easy to use, August 1, 2009
    By Anonymous from Upstate NY

"I have the 4 person tent, but plan to not have more than 3 in it, however I managed to fill it very nicely when I camped alone. It seems to have plenty of space. I stayed dry in the light rain we had, haven't tried it in anything heavy yet. Easy for one to put up and take down, although the fly isn't free standing ( or I haven't figured it out yet). Yep - I'd buy it again."

Love this excellent tent!, June 29, 2009
    By egprime from Columbus Ohio

"I bought this tent a year ago for me and my son to use for weekend trips and scout outings. We have used it 10 times in heat, cold, rain, snow and ice. We have always been dry with no leaking or internal condensation. We have a 4 person tent and for 2 of us it is perfect with our gear. I'm going to buy a second one for my wife and daughter because I'd rather have 2 small tents of excellent quality than one large heavy hard to set up family tent.

Overall I cant say enough about the quality of the tent I do wish Cabela's made a footprint for this model like other mfg's do so I just use a tarp. It is not light enough for one person to backpack but split between 2 would be fine. The rain fly is excellent full coverage and breaths awesome. I get envious looks from everyone when I set it up and the next morning when others are wet and cold.

    Cabelas Quality, May 27, 2009
By VoyagerShawn from Des Moines, Iowa

"Haven't had the tent out yet. Although I set it up in the yard to give it a look. All aspects of the tent are thought through. Quality water proofing and features will make it a nice stay as I travel this fall to the BWCA. I would say that like most tents 4 would be cramped but three should fit well. If you have not used high end tents this would be a wonderful choice as I've used other name brands with less features and quality. The two entry doors will make this a wonderful tent for multiple people."

    Delux XPG-4, May 8, 2009
By PtomainePterror from Balsam Grove, North Carolina

"After reading all of the reviews for this tent, I decided that this is the one that I wanted..and that any tent I bought was going to come from Cabelas due to the superb customer service I've received over the years.

The night after the tent arrived I had to give it a test drive and promptly took it out to a "car camping" site. With a cheap tarp under it, and a Kelty Tarp over it, I was very happy with every aspect of its set-up. It went up very quickly, was very roomy (ok, so I got the 4 person version even though I typically camp alone... what can I say). A slight drizzle that started right after set up almost immediately turned into a rip snorting thunderstorm with heavy rain and wind. The tent stayed 100% dry and had no complications from the wind. Without the fly, you have excellent visibility from within the tent, and with the window on the fly, you can at least look outside.

This tent is VERY well designed and extremely tough. It may well be the highest quality tent I've ever owned - at a fraction of the cost of similar tents by other manufacturers. I'd recommend this tent to anyone. I am greatly looking forward to using it in some more remote locations - but for a "first time out" it was the BEST !

    Cabela's Deluxe XPG Tent, May 4, 2009
By Kahiko from Kipahulu, Maui, Hawaii

"This tent will open and set up in less than 15minutes, by one person. Pole clamps are color coded. Aluminum pegs secure the and the Rain fly goes on quickly. Be careful on unzipping the entrance as the zipper can get caught in the tent flap. I set the tent on a very slight sloop to avoid water under the tent. I did place a tarp under the tent floor. The first day and for two nights it rained alot as the road to Hana, Maui closed behind us. The next two days in Kipahulu, it rained quite frequently. The tent was perfectly dry with no signs of leaks at the seams. Temperture dropped from the high 70's to the high 50's. I was very comfortable on a Cabela's self inflating sleeping pad and sleeping bag. It provided more than ample room for two campers and their gear. The high ceiling gave you a feeling of being in a tent larger than it was. I would highly recommend this tent to a camper of hunter who wants quality in an 8lb tent. I was a prior hunting guide and have been camping outdoors for over 55 years."

"bought this tent about a yaer ago for motorcycle trips, havent been able to use it ,till april
brother needed a tent for annual camping trip to arkansas
    (beaver dam)
told him i had never used this tent, but since it was from cabelas it should stay dry if it rained as usual at least one day out of the 5 we stay there,
Went fishing one morning started out dry, but around 10 am started to rain , rained all afternoon, came back tent was dry as a bone, well it cleared up long enough to get supper then the real rain came in along with wind and hail.
the tent stayed in one place, also stayed completely dry, the hail diddnt even bother it.
all in all this tent was one heck of a tent, with ease of set up, the room in the tent and just the overall construction, ill have no problem using this tent at anytime of the year, anywhere.
THANKS CABELAS FOR MAKING A GREAT SMALL BUT ROOMY TENT. this is just what makes cabelas reputation for quality what it is.

    again thanks

    Great tent!, March 6, 2009
    By Cortlandite from Upstate NY

"This is a great tent! I love the mesh roof. Its nice to keep the rainfly off on those hot dry night, so you can go to sleep looking at the stars. I didn't give it 5 stars, because it is a little heavy for a backpacking tent. Which it is advertise for...I have the two man version. I think that the ease of set-up and the way it's constructed makes up for its weight. I would recommend this tent to anyone! The two man version is big enough for two and their gear. I have even had two cabela's army cots (they just fit) and gear and had room to move around in. I would buy another one again, but I don't think I'll need one anytime soon."
