Good prospector fly,January 28, 2010
By GWS243from Glenwood Springs, CO
"On a cool summer day I caught a smallmouth, a largemouth, a small brown trout and a small chain pickerel on a Hale Bopp n Pennsylvania. No takes were hammers, but it put fish on the line while floating in a canoe at the margin of cold and warm water. THe body should be dubbed with a thicker material, but it does keep the action hot."

Hale Bopp Leach,October 6, 2007
By tjflyfrom Renton, WA
"This is a fish-magnet pattern. I use this nearly exclusively anytime of the year on lakes and catch at least 5 trout and more on every outing (ok, sometimes we don't catch fish on anything - other days can be a 50-fish day). Even when fish aren't biting, I can count on getting at least one fish using this pattern. While it is most effective with a bead-head, the regular pattern is a good producer. I have also used it on rivers and have never been skunked there either. Olive green seems to be the most consistent color but maroon is hot in fall and black is hot in summer. I buy at least a dozen at a time and go through them quickly because trout slam the fly very aggressively and it's not long that the tail gets shorter and shorter."
