We worked with Meindl to design the Alaska Hunter to handle the absolute toughest mountainous conditions. Maximum support is needed in steep, rocky terrain, so they're built with a super-stiff insole for stability and extreme torsional rigidity. A DIGAfix® lacing system creates a perfect, pressure- free fit around the instep and heel to eliminate blister-causing slippage. And the Vibram® multi- grip outsole offers non-slip traction on rock walls, scree fields and most any ground you're likely to encounter. A rubber rand completely encircles the upper for maximum abrasion protection. Waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® booties combine with a moisture-wicking lining to keep feet dry in any condition. And a padded collar and fully gusseted tongue eliminate pinching and binding. An air active footbed guards against ankle- and knee-jarring shocks. The 10" Hunter has 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation for enhanced cold-weather performance. These are the ultimate Alpine boots. Made in Germany.

Rebate Hiking Boots, June 15, 2009
    By dlmfishandhunt from W.PA.

"I spent the $250 rebate on these hiking boots. Inserted a gel heel and arch pad and went hiking on steep ups and downs in NW PA. After five hours of hiking, I washed the mud off, and declared these boots to be outstanding! Only boot I will wear while deer and turkey hunting and hiking in general. The bellows tongue and lacing allow for easy on and off. A very high quality boot."

Worth the cash!, February 18, 2009
    By ACArkansas from Fayetteville, AR

"I finally broke down and spent the money on high-end boots and it is definately worth it. I hunt in an abandoned rock quarry for whitetails and make an annual trip to Idaho for elk, so I needed boot that stands up to abuse and these have delivered. After about 6 miles of trekking, they broke-in and are very comfortable. The rubber rand works great in the rocks of the quarry and the lacing system is great; no foot movement and still comfortable. Great for side-hilling. I only have 30 miles on them, but they're well built, so I expect them to last a long time.

Like everyone else states, the supplied insoles are only good for using as a pattern to cut new ones. I highly suggest Superfeet insoles, they dont seem like much out of the box, but after the first hike your hooked."

Look no further, February 16, 2009
By beaverflats from Rocky Mountain House Ab. Canada

"Great boot! Last pair I had was the canadians and they lasted me seven years. Used this pair guiding in northern B.C chasing after goats and mountain caribou. I had hunters absolutely drooling over these boots. Great support, no break in time, comfortable, and totally durable. Rocks don't even touch these thanks to the wrap around rubber. Very waterproof. No complaints at all."

Meindl Alaska Hunter - Mountain Ready, January 23, 2009
    By kokomo12 from Southwest Virginia

"This is the 3rd pair of Meindl boots I have owned. The first two were Perfekt Hunters, which are also extremely good boots. The Alaska Hunter provides incredible ankle support, and superior traction on steep rocky terrain. Feet stay warm and dry, and more importantly feet stay where you plant them on steep, rocky terrain better than most other boots. I am a professional forester in the Blue Ridge Mts. of Virginia, and make my living in my boots."

Cabelas Alaska Hunter Boots, December 18, 2008
    By Midnitesooner from British Columbia

"I was so disappointed when I had bought my third pair of mountain hunter boots. They were not near the old boots I had purchased in the past and now had to find a suitable replacement. Cabela's Alaska hunter Boots by Meindl were in the end the perfect solution. Break in time was minimal, and the boots have turned out to be very tough. I have worn them on a very difficult solo Grizz. and Goat hunt and they performed extremely well. They stayed warm in the snow, continued waterproof thru creeks and wet slides. and not one sore spot on my feet or ankles. Hopefully these boots will not change in the future. These boots are an excellent product."

walking on concrete, December 17, 2008
    By funkystupp from Spencertown, NY

"I am a logger so I was looking for a comfortable but sturdy waterproof boot. The boot in design is attractive as well as functional. Waterproof yes, comfort around leg and ankle, yes. Traction, yep that is there. But...The bottom insole of these boots are not cushioned at all. Walking and standing in these boots is like walking/standing on concrete!! Your feet and back will feel it. For the big price tag and the name I am very disappointed and next year will be returning to the Cabela's brand."

Great Alaskan Boot, November 27, 2008
    By LstChance from Kodiak, Alaska

"Great boot for the outdoors, works even better with the Meindl insert. I have used these boots on several different types of terrian in Alaska and they have worked as advertised. Forget about the price to get what you pay for. You can find a creaper boot but not a better one for less."

    Great boots, November 20, 2008
By rplx from All over Alaska

"I live in alaska and travel all over the state for a living. I am outside 95% of the time for my job (utility construction). I have two pairs of these boots one for hunting and one for working. My work boots have lasted 2 years longer than custom boots, or expensive quarry boots.

These boots do good in late spring, summer and early fall. They are great to hunt or work in but not heavy enough for cold weather. They seem to stay waterproof forever, and you don't have to worry about twisting an ankle they are stiff. Really stiff, until you break them in then they conform to your feet and the way you walk. You won't be sorry for buying these boots once they are broke in."

Great Boots bad insoles, November 18, 2008
By Joswig from Grande Ronde, Hells Canyon, Snake River

"This is my second pair. I chukar hunt in them and used the other pair for about 4 years. These are great for very harsh terrain, and they go up rock, and through scree very well. The soles are stiff enough to kick-in going up muddy inclines when it rains. They are heavy boots, but any lightweight boot fails in these conditions. The only reason I do not give these boots 5 stars is that the insoles need to be replaced before you use them. Go buy some good running shoe insoles or going down hill will be torture on your heals. They did put a little cushion in the insoles since my first pair, but they are still terrible insoles. With new insoles I hunt all day at least once, or more likely twice a week from Oct-Mid Jan,"

Amazing Boot for Muley & Elk, November 11, 2008
    By ousuxndallas from Littleton, CO

"I bought these boots in the Summer of 2008. I wore them a couple of times on short hikes before using them on a mule deer hunt in Colorado. Holy smokes!! These boots require very little break-in and handle the ups and downs of Colorado high country hunting with ease.

I also took them pheasant hunting in South Dakota, and they were extremely comfortable walking around in corn and sorghum fields.

They are extremely comfortable, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them if you are going elk hunting or muley hunting. 5 star boots all the way! These are the best boots I've ever had, including some Danners that were very good."

    Great boots!, November 6, 2008
    By ohioboy9021 from Newark, OH

"I bought these boots as I need a lot of support for my feet (Very low arches). I just wore them on a grouse hunt in the UP and loved them. No sore feet and great support the entire time. No issues with blisters either. These boots are well made and seem to run true to size. Well worth it if you ask me, I will be taking them to Colorado on an elk hunt next year and do not think I will be disappointed. Thanks Cabela's!"

    The Best, November 1, 2008
By stillkickin from Cabelas Trout Run Cabin on Gore Pass Colorado

"In eight years these boots have been through three elk, three black bears, two mountain goats, two moose and a caribou. Have your boots done that for you? I might mount them on the wall as well. I just bought another pair."

    Awesome boots, October 29, 2008
    By fbksoutdoorsman from Fairbanks, AK

"I used these boots for moose and caribou hunting in the unforgiving Alaska interior this season. They met every challenge I threw at them. I used them in bogs, mountains, tundra, trails, and even a foot of snow on the North Slope and they worked awesome. I was walking 15-20 miles a day not one blister all season, that's so important when out for extended periods. That’s why they get 5 stars. Definitely not a cold weather sitting boot but you can get away with 10-20 degree days if you stay active. I did notice that the boot didn’t grip in the cold as well as I would have liked, especially on rock. So you late season sheep/goat hunters be careful on those icy or snowy mornings in mid-September. Even with that one minor issue I still love the boots and can’t wait for a sheep hunt next season."

NO BREAK IN, October 23, 2008
    By CentrelOregon from OREGON

"I bought these boots because I heard great things about them. I work in fire and bought them for the end of the season when the weather turns a little cooler. There is no break in for these boots. I used them immediately after receiving them and hiked in them for many hours and days with no blisters. The only thing I do recommend is to replace the insoles. The ones that come with the boot are worthless."

    By beaverfoot

"I have been a pro guide in B.C. for 12 years. In our area our major draw is for Mountain Goats. Many of our hunters come prepared for the challenge of hunting in the Rockies but their boots are not. I would recommend these boots for any hunter going to the Rockies."
