Walnut rifle stock,
February 15, 2010
By derF20

|
"I needed to replace the butt stock on a Savage Model 99 rifle. The Stock from Cabela's worked fine. I did a minimum amount of final sizing to get the action and safety to work properly. The quality of the walnut and the finish was good for the price."

My Dad's favorite quail gun,
December 17, 2009
By OldManHuck
from I'm a Maintanance electronic/electrican for Whirlp
|
"I never thought I would be able to purchase such a beautiful gun stock that mounted so uniformally to an old model 12 Winchester that was my Dad's favorite bird gun! My 83 year old neighbor wanted to mount the new stock from Cabela's because he wanted something to do and he done a fine job! My Dad passed away 27 years ago and now I'm a few years older than he was at the time of his death, but he would of been really proud of his old model 12 Winchester! Thanks again Cabela's for such high quailty merchandise."

winchester model 94 rifle stocks,
June 16, 2009
By happyhunters
from Pennsylvania
|
"I purchased 2 replacement butt stocks for a couple of Winchester 94's. The wood was very nice, BUT, That was it. The rear of the stock was over 1/4" thicker than originals. It was also cut straight so the origional curved steel butt plate could not be used. They were not milled deep enough so more work would be needed for the receiver tangs to fit. Unless you did all the work yourself, it would cost more than the initial price to have them fitted. This is the first time I ever returned any items to Cabela's. I was surprised they would handle anything so wrong."

"the machining was OK fit to tang was good but would take a lot of work to fit to older browning A5 it would be better if no finish was applied so you could put your own finish on the wood it would be verry dificult to finish over the oil that is on it. product was returned"

"This stock was to replace the factory stock that had been cut off. The wood is a very nice walnut and I will add that I bought the fore arm also .The two pieces were a very good match. There only minor fitting needed. Great item."

Winchester 12 Replacement Stock,
November 28, 2008
By TallahasseeFrank
from Tallahassee Florida-wildlife biologist and hunter
|
"I ordered the Winchester 12 replacement stock for my Winchester Model 12 Shotgun.
I was impressed with the appearance of the stock. It has a rough (i.e., not varnished) finish similar to that found on the early Model 12s. Its external cut and dimensions were virtually identical to the original. I thought I was pleased at this point.
Then I tried to attach the replacement stock to the shotgun. After removing the old stock, I fit the replacement stock to the gun. Try as I might, I could not get the stock bolt to thread into the the threaded bolt receptacle that is an extension of the shotgun's receiver. I worked at it for well over an hour with no luck.
In frustration, I took the gun and the replacement stock to my gunsmith for fitting. He was also quite frustrated with his efforts to get the stock bolt to engage the threaded bolt receptacle. Finally, he determined that the recessed hole pre-bored in the replacement stock to recieve the stock bolt was not bored deep enough to allow the bolt threads to reach and engage the threaded bolt receptacle on the gun's receiver. He extended the depth of the pre-bored hole, and sucessfully bolted the stock to the gun's action. It cost me $39.00 (plus tax) to get the stock to work on the gun it was designed for, and that sounds like a bargain in terms of the time the gunsmith spent on figuring out the problem"

Does not fit right,
April 16, 2008
By Michael85
from CA
|
"I ordered the Savage 99 stock and it did not fit correctly. I had to sand to fit which resulted in me having to refinish the stock once it was done. Once I got the stock to slide on, the hole for the stock screw was too long, so the screw didn't reach the reciever so I could not fit it without sanding even more. Not for beginners like I was. It took days to get it to fit right. The stock I was sent was a monte carlo which I am not a fan of, so if ordering a Savage 99 stock be prepared for that."

Cabela's Walnut Mauser 98 Stock,
February 21, 2008
By BigCoop
from Jacksonville,Florida
|
"The overall quality of the finish was disappointing. There were a lot of rough areas and spots that could use a little more shaping. The "rubbed oil finish" was nearly non-existant. I had to do a lot of work on what should have been a drop in part. Don't buy this one unless you paid attention in shop class."

Excellent value,
August 1, 2007
By Augdog
from Seattle, WA
|
"For the price, these are an excellent bargain. When you compare what you get with similar offerings at the same finish level, the Cabela's product shines. Still, be prepared to do some final fitting and inletting, and to add desirable extras such as sling swivels, a recoil pad, etc."
