Sportsman's space blanket,
June 16, 2009
By AFMG

"Just after potable water, this space blanket is one of the most useful items in an outdoors pack. I've used mine as a sunshade, rain shelter, meat boning "table" and windproof layer while glassing for bear in Alaska. The OD Green/Silver color combination is my favorite but the red or bright blue /silver combos are more visible in a "lost" situation and just as effective. It weighs next to nothing in a pack and makes a lifesaving bivy if things go badly. I wouldn't be without one outdoors."

Space Blankets,
June 15, 2009
By Mike2780

"Bought 2. Hadn't seen them in Australia for years. These were brilliant when I first came across them in mid 1960s in Tasmania and still as good as I remember. Slept on snow using one as a ground sheet and slept well. Had one as part of my survival kit and it kept me warm on freezing nights. Won't go bush in winter without one again. Must have kit for safety and comfort in cold places. Well priced here too."

Space Blanket,
April 17, 2009
By DavyG

"Very handy. If your planning to use in a survival kit don't unfold it, you will never get it as flat as when it comes out of the box. Luckily I bought two, so I have one to use and one in my survival kit. the one I use slaps up in seconds with four bungee chords and parachord when needed. I made the mistake of opening the one I bought for my survival kit (red), but when I tried to put it back into the pouch it took up all the space. I tried and tried but I couldn't get as flat as when it came out of the box. I'm going to have to order another red blanket to replace the green one in my kit."

Sportsman Space Blanket,
March 23, 2009
By herold
from Island Park, Idaho
|
"I purchased similar space blankets about 25 years ago, and for the last 18 years, put them over the windows in a cabin to keep the sun out and the heat in. In the summer we hang them with the shiny side toward the outside, to reflect the sun back out, and in the winter, we put the olive side out to try to collect more heat. It seems to work. After 18 years, the sunlight was causing the coating to flake off, so we replaced the blankets with new ones from Cabelas. I hope the new ones last another 18 years."

An excellent product.,

"I bought an original SpaceBlanket back in 1968 to make a trip with the Boy Scouts to New Mexico. It was $10 back then - hasn't changed much today. The place that I went involved hiking to altitudes around 11,000 feet. At the outset of the hike I looked at my 4lb sleeping bag and my SpaceBlanket and a lightweight flannel bag liner. The sleeping bag stayed behind at base camp. I never regretted it, even though temps dropped to freezing. The SpaceBlanket over the flannel sleeping bag liner was more than enough.
I now own 6 more I bought from Cabela's and keep one in each of the family cars. I give them as gifts. I carry one when I go hunting or fishing. They're great."

"I did not have to use the blanket for an emergency, but I did use it in the tent one night during an elk hunt in Coloardo last month (oct) it got cold enough to freeze an bottle of water in the tent that night. My hunting buddy heard me putting it over the sleeping bag an asked if I was opening the space blanket, I said yes I wonted to be alive in the mouring. Slept like an baby."

Sportsman's Space Blanket,
October 13, 2008
By Lorntz
from Northern California
|
"I ordered five or six of these and they work great. I was pleased with the quality and the handy size. I loaned one to a friend on a hunting trip to Oregon since he did not have a cot. He used it to place his bag on to keep off the wet ground in a wall tent and it worked perfect. I also use them for a tent footprint and tent floor liner. I also use them for a sleeping bag cover cover when using my cot to keep rain or condensation off my bag. They are the perfect size to use with the outfitter cot. I cut short pieces of cord and attach each corner loosely to the cot legs so the space blanket does not slip off the top of my bag. A very handy tarp/blanket. Thanks Cabela's!"

"The blankets definitely work. I used my in an unconventional way by putting it on my tent to block the sun's rays. Worked great and kept my tent cool! Looking forward to trying the reverse for keeping my tent warm (by using the dark side to collect heat from the sun). Hope I never have to use it in an emergency, but if I did I know it would work. Definitely recomended... and it's super lite and portable/packable too!"

"I used these for 2 different jobs. First as an Firefighter EMT i carry these in my personal vehicle to use as a emergency blanket. They are warm and waterproof. They also can be washed. As a Popup camper owner i put these blankets under the bunks to reflect the heat back in. I also put them on top of the canvas end to reflect the heat in the summer and insulate in the spring and fall."

I even bought one for my brother.

"I have had my Sportsman's Space Blanket for a few years now, and have used it for many things. It works awesome as a 2 man tent liner that keeps the floor clean and with the reflective size up will reflect flashlight light as well as keep your heat in the tent. It also works well as an emergency tarp/blanket. With grommets on the corners you can use it for a covering to keep the rain off of you or wrap around you for insulation."

Sportsman's space blankets are awesome!,

"I bought 4 of these to cover the top of my camper after reading all the other good reviews. I have a Quicksilver 10 camper and the entire top is vinyl tenting. On my first trip with them I realized I only had enough to cover part of the top, but I decided to throw them on one end to see how they'd work. Well, we had a major downpour that lasted for hours and I didn't get even one drip on the covered side! (I wish I could say the same for the other end) It also kept the temp cooler during the day... and darker for improved sleeping in the morning. I came home and ordered two more so I can completely cover my top... I used industrial velcro to hold the blankets together and clips for the sides. I can't wait for my next trip!"
