Very Nice!,February 1, 2010
By SnSLfrom Wisconsin
"As with any leather holster a fifteen minute soak in hot water made form fitting easy. The trigger guard security snap releases almost automatically when using the holster in the cross draw position."

Remington holster,March 9, 2009
By Mark45from Vancouver, Washington
"I purchased the holster for my 1858 Remington Army limited edition. It is a good quality for the price and I had no trouble form fitting it to my gun. As mentioned in previous reviews, I wrapped my gun in saran wrap, soaked the holster in warm water for about 15 minutes, then pinched the leather out where required. Generally around the cylinder area, the trigger guard, and along the top spine for a front sight groove. It worked great. Just don't get too impatient and allow the holster to dry several days. You can remove the gun after it sits overnight. Make sure to snap the trigger strap in place before drying takes place. I did not even need to re - oil the holster. There was still plenty left."

Dont soak in water!!!!,June 17, 2008
By doccrocfrom Sandpoint, ID
"This holster is great! Good quality leather, the top strap hold secure for hiking/hunting. When you buy it dont soak it! Water takes all the oil out of the leather and can make it rot in the bottom, especialy since this is a closed bottom holster. just squeeze the holster between your hands and roll it around to loosen and open it up to get the gun in far enough to buckle the top strap. The strap isent to short you just have to break the holster in. once you get the gun in leave it overnight or for a few days and you'll never have a problem again. I also applyd obenaufs leather oil to it to protect the leather from scratching, cracking, and to waterproof it."

Peachie,April 10, 2008
By Peachiefrom La Quinta, CA
"Very well constructed, heavy leather. You may consider getting a drop loop gun belt for this holster, or a cross draw holster with a regular belt. The length of the barrels this holster is designed for makes vertical drawing a challenge."

Remington Leather Holster,March 28, 2008
By Torpexfrom Cleveland,Ohio
"I'm very happy with this holster considering what it costs. All I really did was soak it in hot water for a bit (mentioned elsewhere I believe), wrapped my revolver in plastic, inserted it into the wet holster and allowed it to slowly dry. Perfect fit! There was quite a bit of oil which seeped out when soaking and I had to change the water a few times, but everything went as planned. I did not soak it for so long that all the oil seeped out, but I did leave it in water for about 15 minutes total. I did experience the situation mentioned in another review about how the gun didn't quite fit and/or the strap wasn't quite long enough, but this is why I did the soak and dry method, and that made everything right. I've had pretty good luck doing this with everything from holsters to tight boots."

Good Leather, Good Value, Needs Fitting,March 11, 2008
By UltiMAKfrom North Idaho / Eastern Washington
"This should be offered as a "fitting required" piece. I suppose you could jam the gun in hard, and let it sit that way for a while. The full-sized .58 Rem New Army with 8" barrel will not fit in without extreme pressure. The answer is to soak the holster for a short time. Soak the leather, wrap the revolver in plastic, and push it into the holster. You can then "hand-mold" the softened leather to conform to your gun beautifully. Make sure to leave room along the top of the barrel for the front sight to slide in and out. Don't let the gun sit in it too long while wet-- the plastic will usually break through somewhere and get water on the gun (I've done this twice now). The process took me several hours (while watching TV) and my hands were sore afterward, but the result was stunning-- a custom, form-fit holster. The strap holds the gun in by the trigger guard-- that confused me at first as I assumed it was supposed to go over the hammer. Adding a leg strap makes for an easier, faster draw."

Great heavy duty holster,July 18, 2007
By Chongofrom Buena Vista, CO
"Impressed with quality of leather, and fit. Rides well. Recommend you soak holster in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes then insert you gun wrapped in plastic and leave till holster drys. This will give you a perfect fit and will not effect the leather finish. Can't beat the quality for the price!"

Great product,May 10, 2007
By MattyNHfrom Hancock, NH
"Just a quick review. The holster is exactly what I was looking for. It is comfortable and easy to get in to. I wear my black powder revolver when I bow hunt or am hunting with my muzzle loader or rifle. It's nice to be able to keep the revolver covered under my coat in case of rain. I would recommend it to anyone. Matty"
