Quite possibly the simplest design among quality tents today. Camping with the Outback Lodge ends the hassle of fighting with cumbersome pole sets. Setting up the Outback Lodge is as simple as (1) staking out the corners, (2) raising the single center pole and four internal corner poles, then (3) securing the guy lines. That's it; camp is made. You can even leave the center pole at home and simply hang the center peak of the tent from a limb for a lightweight spike camp. Walls are constructed of 190T nylon taffeta treated with a 1,500mm polyurethane waterproof-rated coating. The long-wearing floor is constructed of 210-denier oxford nylon. Double-pull zip-close door with zippered No-See-Um mesh panel. Three No-See-Um mesh windows, two new mesh-screen vents near the top and newly redesigned ventilation panels on the sidewalls reduce condensation. Plenty of headroom adds an extra measure of comfort. Stakes and stuff bag included. Optional floor liner for easy cleanup and extended floor life. Imported.

Just what I expected, November 19, 2009
By okgatordoc from Broken Arrow OK

"I've only slept in it once on a relatively mild night so can't comment on any condensation problems or issues related to extremes of temp. No zipper problems. Lots of guy-ropes so you need a fairly open area in which to put it, but these are the reason the tent works well. Set up was quite easy, just as straightforward as the blurb in the catalog. I don't think you could put it up in the rain without getting quite a bit of water inside. Also purchased the floor liner, this went in easily also. A most pleasant surprise was that the storage duffel is big enough that you don't need a degree in origami to get the tent back in; it even has room for the optional liner. I bought the 10x10; could sleep 6 if everyone's stacked like cordwood. More realistic is 2(3max) and sufficient gear for each, particularly if cots are used."

Great Tent, November 18, 2009
By bbeno from Idaho

"I recently purchased this tent for a elk hunting trip and was pretty anxious on how it will go up and compare to a canvas wall tent. It went up very easily, and we actually set it up at night, so that says something. It rained extremely hard the next day and we stayed completly dry the entire trip. Tons of space and easy to take down. Great buy. I would advise to make sure you open all of the air vents throughout the tent besause it will build up alot of moisture over time."

Outback Lodge, November 18, 2009
By recon3mc from retired in southeastern Alaska

"Great Tent--goes up quickly and no hassle. Waterproof and sheds snow well too. Plenty of room, I have the 12x12, and it's perfect for anytime of the year. Very compact for transport, fits easily on my quad."

Great Family Tent, November 18, 2009
By BDrum from Missouri

"The outback lodge tent is a very good family tent. It has lots of room and has great head room. This is a great tent for someone who doesn't like smaller tents with little room. It's easy to set up, has plenty of storage pockets, and has good ventilation. I have already recommended it to a friend."

Anchor Lines, November 18, 2009
By ydnar

"The lines that anchor the tent slip in 30 mph winds. Although the tent did stay up. All in all it held up pretty well and was easy to setup."

Good Tent, November 14, 2009
By SuperDave64 from Southside, Virginia

"Got 8X8, for week long hunting trip to George Washington Nat'l. Forest. Set tent up in backyard to test out. Left set up, and here comes tropical storm Ida, pounding Virginia, and the tent, for 3 days, with 25-30 mph winds, gusts to 45. 3.5 inches of rain over 48 hours. Tent did not leak. All 3 vents were left open, all zippers work fine. Internal room superior, to A-frame tents. Looking forward to actual camp test, with 12+ inches of snow. Lots of guy lines, but they pay for themselves, when the serious wind and rain hits."

12 X 12 Lodge Tent, November 11, 2009
By Mannyspd1

"I bought the larger size, and used it this Oct./Nov. in Idaho for a 14 day deer and elk hunt. The wind blew, it rained, it snowed, it froze. The tent came through with flying colors. No leaks, very little or no condensation with the vents opened. Make sure you open the top vents and the covers over the windows are properly staked out to allow air flow= no condensation. I used a Little Buddy heater as well to heat the tent upon waking up or going to bed. No heater during the night when sleeping though. This size was great for two guys with all gear and cots. Watch the flaps over the zippers when opening and closing the door, and you won't have any problems."

Great Tent, November 9, 2009
By RayMissouri from St. Louis

"Having read all the reviews I was well aware of the short comings that have been expressed, so I paid special attention to each of them. At this point my son and I have used the tent 3 nights.

Cons

1) Dampness. Yes this can be a problem if you do not make sure to keep the vents and even windows open. We camped in a low spot with heavy dew in the morning and the walls do get damp. However, the tent does have adaquate ventilation if used and if you do NOT touch the walls. Latter in the day dampness is not an issue at all. We never had problems with water dripping on the inside, however I can see were it is possible. To me this is something that can be lived with and is way overcome by the tents good points.

2) Zipper. We had no problems with this at all and it seemed more than adaquate. However, we are two adults not kids yanking on it.

3) Ropes. There are a lot of ropes, but they are not an issue for adults, again this would be different with kids.

4) Stakes. We camped in soft ground so the tent stakes were more than adaquate, but they looked like they would also work in a little harder soil.

5) Center Pole. The center pole is light, but I think it is adaquate for eveyrthing we will be doing in the midwest hunting for whitetails. If it snows try not to let it build up too much.

Pros

1) Simple. The process of putting the tent up and down is totally intuitive and fast. After using large dome tents it is a wonderful change. If you do not want to spend time taking a tent up and down this one is for you.

2) Ventilation is good.

3) Can not beat the price.

General

Having lived with a large dome tent that took a half hour to put up and another half hour to take down my main objective was an easy to assemble tent and this tent does that in spades. No regreats here.

Suggestions

Use low cots like the Big Grizzly they are a perfect match and keep you away from the walls of the tent in case there is some condenstation. We have the 10X10 and it is great for two guys and all there hunting gear. Also get the floor liner it will save your tent floor.

Nylon does not hold up, November 3, 2009

great for the price, October 25, 2009
By billATX from Austin, TX

"This is a great tent, i bought the 10x10 for a BUDGET Elk hunt in Colorado. It sleeps 2 adult males on cots with gear. we had all the types of weather you can imagine in a week. We had cold to cool nights, some rain, some sleet, couple mornings below freezing. the tent preformed well, i would recomend using tape and taping up the vents in cold windy conditions but think they will come in handy in texas warm nights. the door zipper thing did not bother me, it is fine as long as you are careful and not to picky for the $$. there are a few things I would fix if I could design it, like a awning for the rainy mornings, design a fly for a complete 4 season tent. all in all you can't go wrong for the $."

By wyoming3strand from Selinsgrove, PA

"We used this tent for muledeer hunting this year 2009, it held up to the wyoming prairie winds, rain, and snow. We had no leaks, it stayed tight, and had no condensation on the inside. We also used our buddy heater to take out the chill at night and in the morning. We have the 12x12 tent. which was plenty of room for the 2 of us, our gear and our cots. This size tent is suitable for 3 men with cots and gear. We were very happy with this buy."

Great product, October 14, 2009
By Dickson from Normandy, Tennessee

"I recently bought this tent to go on a hunt in Wyoming.I read all the reviews and expected it to perform well.I was there the 1st week in Oct.I saw some rain, sleet, snow, and some strong winds. The tent performed better than I was expecting. We were able to stay warm and dry with no problem.I had read that the zipper was bad to hang but I had no problems with that.I have the 12X12 and I would recomend this tent to anyone. The only thing I would change,a fly would be nice at the door to keep out rain when you enter."

Second Home, October 1, 2009
By Atelang from I live in Galena, Ks and I hunt and fish.

"First let me say, this Tent gets a 5 Stars it is a very good Tent. When I first got my Tent I set it up outside and kept it set up for a month. It withstood wind, rain and hail, most of the kind of Weather we have this time of year in Galena, Ks. I had no problem with the Tents zippers, of course I do have other Tents and know how to use the zippers without geting in a hurry that causes hang ups. I had a little condensation inside but it dried up during the day.. It is a very good Tent , enjoy..."

Simple set-up and stays up, September 23, 2009
By Mike1111 from Boise, ID

"I needed a large tent that I can set-up all by myself with ease, and this is it. Once erected, this tent has easily withstood daily 25-30 mph desert winds in SW Idaho. This tent also performed well under wet conditions. The ONLY suggestion I can make to Cabelas and to the new buyer of this tent is replace the wimpy sheetmetal tent stakes with 10 inch nails so that tent can be staked-out on hard surfaces (I bought the nails from my local hardware store for about 40 cents each)."

Outback Lodge, September 23, 2009
By oldakcop from Eagle River, AK

"Great tent! I purchased the 12'x12' and spent 6 days in the "Outback" of Alaska, moose hunting. Rain, wind, snow, ice, and sun. This tent performed very well. Very light weight and compact for it's size. I had read the reviews and was concerned about the complaints of zipper problems. Didn't have any zipper problems. I was also concerned about the complaints of moisture. Didn't have any more moisture problems than any other tent made from the same material. If you're camping in colder weather, you're going to have to learn to deal with your breath collecting on the inside. Used a single burner stove to dry it out in no time. (YES, you have to turn it on LOW, open the vents, and watch it!) I highly recommend this tent."

12x12, September 20, 2009
By MrMUsk from Ohio

"I haven't camped in the 12x12 tent yet but I did set it up by myself quite easily and quickly and just as easy as a 12x12 dome tent I also use. The zipper seemed to work fine and I did leave the front left to right some what loose. I noticed the top peak is velcroed shut and can be unvelcroed to allow more ventilation and I wonder if anyone has had any snow or rain come in when it's opened this way. I will report back on how it perfroms this year during archery, then gun, and then muzzle loader seasons with rain wind and snow."

nice tent, September 19, 2009
By stevemichigan from michigan

"easy to set up ...in hard ground the stakes are hard to get out and I did break one the first time it was taken down....as in other reviews they talked about the zipper,it seemed to work ok or me....It's tall enough for a 6 foot person to stand in, so it's easy to get dressed...nice tent"

NOT MADE FOR SNOW!, September 15, 2009
By miador from Colorado

"First & foremost the entrance zipper sticks horribly. The design requires you to use both hands so you don't zip the tent up in itself. Meanwhile, in just a couple inches of snow, the center pole collapsed. Thank goodness we found an old abandoned camp nearby and used old tent poles to salvage this tent. The only saving grace was that the tent did not rip. This, coming from an outfitter / guide in Colorado. A trip at 12,000' in Sept., not even winter, 2009."
