"After a lot of research into all the available hydrofoils I chose the Sport 300 to install on my 2009 Tahoe 215 XI deck boat. I'm running a 220 hp 5.0 mercruiser with an alpha I drive. I was looking for 3 things. As I like to use my deck boat in a sort of pontoon boat capacity, I wanted an increased slow speed before the boat began to plow as my girlfriend likes to take is slow and enjoy. I hated the fact that the boat wouldn't stay level if any throttle was applied. I was also looking to come on plane a bit quicker as the kids like to do a lot of tubing and skiing. I also travel some good distances up and down the Mississippi river so I was looking for any increase in top speed I could manage.
2 out of 3 ain't bad!!!
Installation was a breeze, but I did completely remove the lower gear housing to drill the holes. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I blame the Mechanical Engineering degree.
My boat used to begin to plow at about 1200 rpm and would rise the bow to a point where I could see nothing and it was uncomfortable to sit at the elevated angle. I was cruising around yesterday and was amazed that I could run at 2000 rpm with little or no bow rise. And it would never even reach the level of tilt it had before I installed the foil. My girlfriend is in heaven!!
From a stand still to wide open throttle, I was dumbfounded. The boat literally never lifts the bow more than a foot. It's instantly on plane. This is what most people are looking for and this foil does much better than any other I have every had experience with.... It also turns extremely well and has all but eliminated cavitation.
I did actually lose one or two mph on my top speed. Considering the other benefits, I'll gladly deal with the loss of top speed. I was sceptical about the claims of increased top speeds. Adding a piece that adds substantial drag seemed to have no possibility of giving speed increases. It didn't.
I'm anxious to spend some substantial time in the boat to see if it has affected my gas mileage. If it saves me money too, I'll hate myself for not installing it the day I bought the boat!!!"

"I Have a 18' Ranger with a150 Mariner. Prior to instalation I never had any issues getting on plane, but seemed a little loose when at top end. I was a little reluctant to purchase, because most positive reviews seamed to be for smaller motors, but I am really glad I did. Now I get an additional 3 MPH and the boat is very stable and much easier to control. I also seemed to increase my gas mileage a fair amount."

"The Hydrofoil met my expectations. It allows me to cruise at a slower speed without porpoising. I get on plane with less bow rise but I don't think much faster. I don't think it had much effect on top end either way. It does seem to dampen bow bounce due to chop.
My main compaint is about the sport clip mounting accessorie. I think that the directions are poorly writen and illustrated. It would be better with some preassemble and a spare of the two sided adhesive foam. Make sure if you use the sport clip you read ahead in the directions to get right placement of different bolts and other info."

"Works really good, brings the boat up on plane real fast and helps in turning also. Can't tell you if it helps on gas or not because I haven't use my boat enough this summer. I had an older model of a hydrofoil on my engine (115 Evenrude Intruder on a Crestliner Phantom SST 186) and when I took it off the SE Sport bolt pattern was the same and it was easiest one I ever installed. Not the cheapest hydrofoil out there but well worth the money."

"this is a must have item if u pull tubes or slow speed on the lakes it dose get your bow down at low speeds i have a mark twain with a bult 4.3 the ride got better better controll but i lost 7 mph at wide open throtle i use a tom tom gps unit for speed i went from 59 mph to 52 i burn methonal for fuel i also went from aprox 12 gph of fuel to aprox 13.5 gph fuel ??? that might be my lead foot??????? but i dont think u will find a better foil for the price"

"I tried this product after doing much Web research, I was not convinced I would see an improvement after all the pro and con reviews...This product truly does as advertised and more!!! I noticed an immediate improvement and the boat gets on plane now with 6 adults in it, as before I had trouble with 3. I was a bit concerned about drilling the cavitation plate, but I have seen no ill effects."

"I bought this item because my Mako 21B would not plane properly. At about 18 knots the hull would stick out of the water at about 30 degrees. I've tested it to 23 knots without that problem."

"Bought a new Sport 300. First of all, it is not set up to be installed on a YAamaha 4-stroke without altering the outline so it fits far enough forward to be effective. Second, it comes with insufficient length screws so I had to go to the hardware store to get two (the other two were long enough...go figure?) Third, when I took the boat out on the lake it cost me 2 mph top end, didn't improve handling one bit,didn't keep the nose down, as a matter of fact it made the nose rise, worse. I have had a wing on another boat and the improvement was dramatic...this one is terrible. Look for another brand. Even the instructions are poorly done. They don't show the installer that when installed on the Yamaha, if you drill in the place suggested, your steering correction tab is in the way and you'll render it useless."

"2007 Alumacraft Classic 16.5, 2007 Yamaha 50 2 stroke. Mounts with ease, bow rise is very small, top end speed is maintained. REALLY pays off if the boat is also used for water sports (skiing, tubing etc.)"

"Simply could not get my boat to plane after moving from sea level to living in Idaho where the lakes I am fishing were at 5K elevation and higher. I was able to plane as normal and I did not lose any of my top end speed after going from a 12 pitch to 10 pitch prop on my 60 Hrse 4 stroke by adding this hydrofoil as recomended. I have actually reached higher top end speeds now with a lower pitch prop."
