Awesome Smoker - you need this!, November 21, 2009
    By DodgerCDN from Calgary, Alberta

"I finally broke down and purchased an electric smoker. We have used a charcoal smoker for years and the results were great, but the temp control of the masterbuilt smoking with the constant temperature and temperature probe made the end product AWESOME! Over and under smoking was completely eliminated.

Should have purchased one of these years ago. Just finished smoking a pile of deer sausage in cool temperatures in a cold fall season in Canada and the smoker maintained heat perfectly. Clean up was a breeze.

    This smoker is a must.

quit working after 11 months, March 10, 2010
    By MSUDAWG from Poplarville, MS

"I really liked the smoker at first. Did a great job cooking. but is just quit working after 11 months. It was not used all that many times. We were duck hunting and put on a pork roast to cook when we left out in the morning. everything lit up like it was heating up and working. When we returned to camp later in the morning it was still lit up but the temperature inside had never changed. It was reading 39 degrees after five hours. I am very disappointed in how long it lasted. Seems kind of expensive for something that does not work but 11 months. We only were able to use it 5 or six times. I would try another brand before purchasing this one."

My little smoker, February 22, 2010
    By dellbert from Niceville, Fl.

"I have a friend with the large model and I decided to get the small version to give it a try. It is a great home smoker for the guy who can only use it on weekends. I wish I had more time and I would most likely get a large one and have smokeouts all week long. I couldn't be happier."

masterbuilt electric smoker, February 15, 2010
By smokerdave from Musky capital of the world

"I have used charcoal smokers for years and have a small electric as well. This one, with the digital temp control, is great!
The wood usage is very economical and with a temp prob, turns out great smoked meats. Did venison summer sausage as my first trial, best summer sausage I have ever had.

Not much smoke here, February 8, 2010
    By JimsBBQ from Friendswood, TX

"I'll start by saying I haven't really given this unit a fair chance but so far, there doesn't seem to be much smoke, therefore smoke flavor, generated in the cooking process. It holds heat fine but cleanup is a bear."

fair weather smoker, February 1, 2010
    By ctgooseslayer from Middlefield, Connecticut

"Good features with electronic controls, good smoke box, port to dispense chips without opening door to let the heat out. Problem is that if the smoker is in typical northeast winter temps, the smoker gives an error message. Element must be tepid to run (say 40 degrees?). Hairdryer works, or leave smoker inside for a while before use. Does a great job maintaining heat, cooks well, programable temp and cook times, and has insulated walls. Recommended for fair weather smoking, not water resistant."

    Masterbuilt S.S. Electric Smoker, February 1, 2010
    By Jim61 from Lexington KY

"Used S.S. smoker 5 times...excellent product. Little hard to read digital controls on sunny days, so, used hand to block sun and became very easy to read temperature and cooking time. Get a little smoke coming out around door seal, suspect adjusting latch will solve problem. Liked it so well recommended to my brother who also bought one and he loves his. Great smoker for the money."

    99 % satisfied, January 28, 2010
    By Stashoo

"I've made my own smokers,I've bought other brands. This one is the ticket.Good temperature control, exterior loading of chips, means no heat loss from open doors.I've read other reviews about elements burning out,so far, so good.Only problem I have is..up north here,we smoke in the winter. If the electronic thermostat is below freezing, you have to bring it in to warm up. I called the company to let them know, never got a response back."

    Masterbuilt Smoker, January 25, 2010
    By Crozier from Arizona

"I bought this as a gift for my husband who was interested but had never used a smoker before. We have found this to be a very simple smoker to use as beginners and have experienced great results on our first few tries. We did have to find recipes other than the ones included with the instruction manual."

A good start for the barbecue, January 18, 2010
    By KuknDon from Longview, WA

"I have had only one chance of using the smoker. It was for a full ham per the accompanying recipe book. I liked being able to choose the wood for the smoker and for the ease of adding it to the smoker.
I have had a charcoal smoker until now. It was a bother to get it up to heat on cooler days and after completing the smoking I still had the problem of active coals which often took several hours to cool down enough to safely remove and smoother. No such effort in this smoker
The capacity meets my smoking needs and allows me to do several items for different menus. The water dish caught most of the drippings from the ham but I am not sure if I will have a grease problem with a full smoker.
The one issue is storage. Obviously, it needs to be used outdoors, but the smoker itself shouldn't be exposed to rain and water. The smoker can be no further away from its electrical plug-in than the length of its cord. For me that's no problem in my case because I do have an outside plug that allows me to set the smoker on concrete. However, the storage is some distance away and requires moving it to the storage shed.
It size makes it awkward to move though it is not heavy. Still I am glad I made the investment. It features are better than, or equivalent to others I have looked at and in most cases not nearly as expensive.
Anyone buying one will likely enjoy the results, but the storage and outdoor electric outlet need to be used when making the decision to buy one.

Cooker smoker results, January 13, 2010
    By Wurtsy from South Dakota

"This is a very well built unit, with good insulation and easy to use. It does not do a good job of cold smoking, but for cooking smoking it is exellant. It is very easy to clean. If you are new at smoking food, you will need a good source of information for preparing and smoking."

    By RGDXXXX from Madison, AL

"Good smoker. Really like the way the wood chip insert works. Cooked some summer sausage in 30 degree weather. Held temperature well. Started at 120F and moved up 20 degrees each hour until 180 F then held for 2 hours. The unit is well insulated and easily held temperature. Summer Sausage came out EXCELLENT!"

Awesome little smoker, January 11, 2010
    By steverw from Texas

"I've on my second one of these (first one died in a horrible accident...long story). I went from a stick burner smoker to one of these I found a deal on and just had to try. Never regreted it.

    Pros:
Easy. i'll set a brisket or two in, turn it on, and never have to worry about th fire going out, or it getting too hot. It just works. i had 40 pounds of brisket in on at on time (don't recomend this...it was a pain) and it did fine. I can set it running at midnight and go to bed and not worry about it burning the house down, or going during the night.

I've done ribs, pulled pork, brisket, ABT's....does a great job.

Con's. Very little smoke ring. The smoke ring in bbq is created by a reaction between the carbon monoxide in burning wood and the protiens of the meat. You get very little carbon monoxide in an electric smoker...you still get the same flavor, it just doesn't show a ring.

Masterbuilt Electric Smoker, January 9, 2010
By TahoeMike from Lake Tahoe area, California

"Outstanding product. Easy to use and fully dependable. Have recommended it to two other people already just today after smoking a pork butt for 6.5 hrs. EXCELLENT job - delicious and very, very tender. Set the temperature to 225 and watched it fluctuate between 221 and 225 all day. For those concerned - cleaning is a breeze - especially after covering the bottom grease tray with foil and spraying the rack with Pam before putting the meat on it. Merry Christmas to me!!"

"I have a friend who referred me to buy this electric smoker. I've never smoked meats before, so when my Christmas present produced a brisket that was better than any from a barbeque restaurant, I was impressed. I set the heat at 190 degrees for 16 hours and had to cut it thicker than normal, because it was soooo tender."
