The Rio Gold™ is one of the best all-around floating lines for freshwater fly-fishing. A revolutionary design ensures incredible loop stability during the cast. The unique taper is front-loaded to efficiently load the rod, even at close ranges. A positive front taper allows perfect presentation of flies between sizes #22 and #2. The tip floats extremely high due to Rio's proprietary SFT® process. The entire line is made with Rio's AgentX® undercoat to ensure high flotation and super-smooth performance. New XS Technology® produces an extraordinarily slick line for optimal casting. Welded loop on the front facilitates easy leader attachment.

A great, but slightly fragile line

This line casts great. Extreme loop control and excellent shootability. Also floats very well. As others have stated, it is a little fragile. But hey, I'll take the performance and purchase a new line every dozen outings.

Read the reviews before I bought. I saw some mentioning cracking and chipping. I even questioned flyshops before I bought.
On the second day of use a 1/4 inch piece fell off 20 feet from the end. Right where pressure was put on the line on the end of the pole by a 22 inch fish in fast water on the Big Hole Montana.
Returned it.

Great line until you put some use on it!!

This line is the best line I have ever used. I used it twice on my Winston MX 5wt. The first time I thought it was a fluke when it cracked and went bad. I was stuck lobbing my line towards the fish. Stupid me, I bought it again, and after two months the same exact thing happened. Great line for a short period of time, but watchout if you need it to last!!!

Durable. Casts very, very well and holds up to all the abuse of Alaska and Sierra Nevada trout. Paired it with my Guru 2.0. Great pairing.
