awesome lake trout line

i use this for lake trout in the late fall and early winter in 20 - 30 ft of water and ever since i used this i catch more fish thanks rio and cabelas for carrying this

Very Good Sinking Fly LIne

This line has proven to be very good. It casts easily (for sinking line) and it does sink quickly. I have used it many times, both casting and trolling from a small boat and have had good luck with it. I have not had any cold temperature coiling issues like others have noted. In fact I have NOT had a coiling problem with this line when I have had it with other sinking line. All in all, it is good quality line and I would buy it again.

If you're like a lot of fly fisherman adding a sinking line to your arsenal is something you've been going to do but just have not done it yet. Big mistake, sinking lines and sink tips are a must have for river and lake streamer fishing. Your catch rates will increase dramatically once you employ them. I generally have three rods rigged and ready in the boat and one for sure has a full sinking line on it. Even in just three feet of water full sinking makes a huge difference so just think how important it is in ten or twenty feet. I fish both the White River and Bull Shoals Lake in NW Arkansas where the water is crystal clear and the lake is very deep. I'm often throwing clousers against a bluff over 40 to 100 feet of water. Getting a fly down makes all the difference in the world. A word of caution. Unlike sink tip lines which have a much larger diameter running line. Full sinking lines are small diameter for the entire length. A running fish can pull line fast enough to burn/cut a groove in your fingers quicker than grain through a goose. I highly recommend some type of stripping guard for your rod hand fingers.

Rio Deep 7 Fly Line

Excellent sinking fly line. For years I have used a type 4 sinking line and did not realize a type 7 sinking line was available. I bought the Rio type 7 and went out to my favorite lake, threw a cast in 50 feet of water and caught a fish on my first cast. Since the line is density compensated, it theoretically covers the entire water column without any "bellying". My fish finder showed all the fish at 25 feet and my gut feel is that the fish were caught as the fly came up through the 25 foot level. The only drawback to this line is that it has a "memory". However, I take a minute before casting to hand stretch the line and have not had any difficulties. Also, the line gets down fast! The line supposedly sinks as 8 inches per second, but I think it is closer to 6 or 7 inches per second. I have dramatically increased my catch in deep lakes -- probably by about 20-30 percent. Overall, an excellent line. By the way, I bought a weight forward 7 line and have used it with no difficulty on a 6 weight rod.
