Malin Pre-marked trolling wire
Date:
This stuff is great. The markings enable you to pay out just the right amount of line to hit the strike zone and repeat it on multiple passes. Kinking is not really a problem and the line sinks very quickly.

Monel wire works on Billingsgate Shoals
Date:
I switched to Monel from stainless and like it better. I smack 5 oz jigit eel jigs on Billingsgate shoals in Cape Cod bay for stripers. The wire has gotten a lot of abuse and has held up. i have used 40 and 50lb wire and a Penn Sabre rod with carboloy guides which are necessary. The wire does kink, and the monel is easier to straighten out than stainless as it seems a bit more flexible. I take precautions straitening out kinks when letting the line out. I can see you might get breaks if you didn't pay close attention to the kinking. I use the 450 ft spool and cut down on the dacron backing as I find most of the fish between 40 to 60 feet. Sometime I get hung on the bottom and have to cut off 50 feet of line to get free, which is another reason I use the 450 ft roll. I replace the line every 2 years. So far the biggest striper has been 35 lbs on the monel.

Monel fishing line
Date:
My mistake in that I bought it to fish the Sea of Cortez as a trowling line and it just would not work for that. I do not know what it is good for but it is way too weak for my use. Spent about $20 to find this put but Cabela's did make good on the item. Not their fault. Managed to get a good stainless line from a marine hardware store that is perfect.
