After looking at several other skin and saw packages - that were much more expensive - I thought I'd try this. I am very pleased with this. Extremely compact - very rugged - this is all you will need.
I purchased this knife/saw/gut hook combo last fall. I'm a big fan of 440 steel and this knife maintains its edge. I've dressed many a deer and only use a steel to touch up the edge so far. The saw works flawlessly to cut the pelvic gone quickly. I do like the guthook for opening the abdominal up. The only upgrade would be is to have the handles in a hunter orange color. I will be using this combo for many years to come. Great tool by Gerber/Cabelas.
This knife is very sturdy and I think it will work well for cleaning big game (deer, bear, moose). Be aware that it is very thick, the knife is 7/8" thick, which I think is very thick for a 2 bladed knife. It's pretty heavy also. It does fit well in the hand, but I think I would have preferred a thinner frame. With the gut hook and the knife in the belt pouch, the thickness of the whole kit is 2 inches!! pretty big to be banging on my hip all day. I will use this next hunting season, but the knife will stay in my pack or coat, and I can't see myself carrying the gut hook around. It's just not worth the thickness in the pouch for something I'd only use for 1 maneuver for 12 seconds. I'll palm the knife and put my index finger at the point of the blade to slit the belly. For 30 dollars you can't beat it, but be aware. Another reviewer said it didn't stay sharp. Well then, sharpen it! TP New Hampshire
